The innovative Coral sandal combines, the invitation launched by the newly established Centro Mediterraneo della Moda to artisans in Campania to give “special prominence to coral as a decorative element and as a detail of women’s apparel with the aim of strengthening one of the most valuable resources of the Vesuvius area. The research in this period is carried out by a small group of creative talents, who reinterpret a type of shoe common in rural or poor areas, and launch the sandal as an accessory in seaside fashion, with the ultimate goal of restoring a certain naturalness to the foot. Irene Brin, a prominent journalist of the time, specialised un the society section,promoted this unique specimen of creativity in the press,sanctioning their ultimate success on the national scenario. "We started from shoes and it is round the that we must continue”. An innovative spirit animated the fashion house between the end of 1980s and the beginning of 1990s and this was art the basis of the projects developed in footwear and accessories. Significant for the progressive revision in this field was the consultancy work of Karl Lagerfeld. The company’s production capacity, the opennes to modernity that has always characterized its founder,the high technical specialization of its craftsmen and the importance of tradition lead him to design modish models. Then years later, the design became more delicate and the style more sober and moderate thanks to the ideas of Bianca Valentino.The footwear colkection designed with Claude Montana revealed this influence. The combinazione of natural materiale with synthetic supports, drives creative talents to new design horizons which express a unique blend of modernity, humor and tradition. The Leather, the core soul of this kind of products is reduced to a pure decorative element. A culture of essentialty,minimalism and the idea of “false poverty” influenced this period.
