How could I win an award for photography and not take my own photos lol I couldn’t be more grateful for this honor. Photography means so much more to me than just taking “pretty pictures”. I want my work to always scream Black, Proud, and Beautiful. I want my work to affirm our beauty, to affirm our greatness, potential, and to inspire. We deserve to see ourselves through our own eyes. So often we’re taught to just be happy to be in the room. I know I mention my university all the time, but it really taught me the importance of creating spaces where we’re celebrated and not tolerated. We deserve to see our stars beautifully lit with their heads held high with pride. Greatness is in all of us, and sometimes it takes seeing it on screen or in pictures to believe it! To all my creators of color out there, I know how it feels to fight to be seen and for your work to get the same respect and recognition as others. Having to just be happy with the opportunity and not get paid your worth if you’re getting paid at all. It’s important that we all advocate for each other and encourage each other. There are so many of us out here representing us and creating opportunities for other creatives of color to follow. No one is in competition. We are a community, and I’m so blessed that I’m able to be part of the shift. This was never about me, it was always about “Us”, “Representation”, and “The Culture” but I’ve just scratched the surface of who I am becoming and what I will accomplish! Thank you again @hollywoodbeautyawards ! #dadamsphotos #dadamsphotography #forbesblk

I had the opportunity to photograph @tarajiphenson as she hosted the BET award show, capturing every look she wore, all of which were by black designers. This feature was also showcased in @Vogue online, where she emphasized the work of black designers. Major S/O to her glam team! I’ve never seen anything like it lol yall weren’t playing. Investing in the next generation of black creatives is so important for fostering diversity and inclusion in the creative industry. Creating a scholarship is one way to provide opportunities and support for young talent. It’s crucial for us to invest in and support up-and-coming creatives, showing them that there is a network of support available to them. I strongly believe that students should not be faced with the dilemma of having to decide between pursuing a creative career and obtaining a traditional education. It is crucial for individuals who have succeeded in creative fields to advocate that it is possible to pursue an education, be a student, and engage in all the activities that are necessary to achieve success. I also believe that there is a wealth of talent that often goes unnoticed and unappreciated in smaller towns and cities. It’s important to shine a spotlight on these artists and creatives and provide them with the support they deserve. As a creative who came from a small town and kickstarted my creative career in college, I am eager to assist someone on their journey of beginning their career. I believe that education and starting the creative journey should not be a burden. Please make sure to share this post with anyone in your network who could benefit from it - parents, students, teachers, school counselors. Thank you #dadamsphotos #dadamsphotography #hbcu
