Il primo luglio del 1910 scompare a Gurzuf in Crimea Marius Petipa. Figlio d’arte, il celebre coreografo nasce a Marsiglia, diventa primo ballerino a Bordeaux, poi a Parigi e infine a Pietroburgo.
I suoi primi esperimenti come coreografo avvengono a Madrid ma è in Russia che si guadagna la fama ancora oggi associata al suo nome. È temporaneamente assistente di Perrot presso i Teatri imperiali, dove in seguito diventa maestro e principale coreografo nel 1862, anno del suo primo grande successo con La fille du Pharaon.
Da quel momento realizza per i Teatri di Pietroburgo e di Mosca ben 50 balletti, tra i quali la versione del 1895 del Lago dei cigni, firmata con Lev Ivanov, sulla quale si basa la coreografia di Rudolf Nureyev, portata in scena dal nostro Corpo di ballo nel 2023 e disponibile in streaming su LaScalaTv con

On 1 July 1910, Marius Petipa died in Gurzuf in the Crimea. Son of art, the famous choreographer was born in Marseille, became a first dancer in Bordeaux, then in Paris and finally in Petersburg.
His first experiments as a choreographer took place in Madrid but it was in Russia that he earned the fame still associated with his name today. He was temporarily Perrot's assistant at the Imperial Theatres, where he later became master and principal choreographer in 1862, the year of his first real success with La fille du Pharaon.
From then on, he choreographed no less than 50 ballets for the Petersburg and Moscow Theatres, including the 1895 version of Swan Lake, together with Lev Ivanov, on which Rudolf Nureyev's choreography, performed by our Ballet Company in 2023 and available in streaming on LaScalaTv, is based.
