A mural for
@cvtastreetfest Titled “Every time a door closes a bigger door opens”.
This phrase is about allowing one ending to be and opportunity for a new beginning.
The phrase is an Italian saying written in the Civita dialect, as a way to pay tribute to the people and community.
There are many vases and tea pots painted on this mural all in reference to the local craft and pottery. They also speak to the somewhat delicate nature of life and these objects yet they, like knowledge can be passed on for countless generations with care.
In the centre of the mural is a couple embracing each other. On either side of them is a door. This shows that to find each other, old doors had to be closed and new ones opened.
On either side of the mural there are ambiguous versions of this couple in phases of their relationship. This works as a metaphor to how love is a cycle and how through love you are linking to all of your ancestors who once loved.
The pattern of grandmothers in a repeated pattern shows the passing of knowledge and love to each generation through the symbol of them blowing a kiss or knocking on a door.
