I said I would tell you about this painting in my last post so if you have a moment here we go...
How do you express something that you deeply feel in yourself that you only have a sense of and no idea how it should manifest? I have long been fascinated by colour's ability to evoke emotion in its simplest forms and I set myself the personal challenge to reconcile balancing colour relations with whatever the emotional part of me needed to express. The painting became the 'entente' - the peaceful alliance between my conscious and subconscious mind, merging my technical understanding of colour and composition and its ability to connect and vibrate. Colour can emotionally move and balance with its ability to be a container and vehicle thus enabling me to lay myself raw on the canvas using just a few marks layered and layered over time.
As I painted this, I felt a growing sense of who I am as a person and artist, an emerging sense of personal power and autonomy and an increasing bravery to share the deeper parts of myself and understanding without the need to be explicit. It's all about feeling and hopefully as you stand in front of the painting, you will see more and more within the layers of colour, the hidden depths, a growing connection to the painting and the emotional 'heat' that comes off it.
Instagram provides a small shot. It has been a journey of over 6 months to reconcile this painting. Please do come and see it
