Introducing our Colorplan Vinyl cover collection! 💿🌈
For our latest @colorplan_papers printed promotion, we turned to the creative talent currently incubating within Manchester School of Arts’ dynamic @msoagraphicdesign course, setting third and second years the brief of designing the cover art for our ‘Portal - the sound of colour’ vinyl album - the soundscape developed by @father_insta that reflects all 55 colours in the Colorplan range.
We are thrilled to share the final 10 designs, created by ten inspiring and ambitious young designers: Adomas Lukas Petrauskas, Alice-Skye McEwen, Amelia Renny, Bradley Sansom, Connie Wooddisse, Harley Whitney, Ishita Garg, Lucy Michaela, Rupinder Kaur, and Salem Ahmed.
Produced by the skilled team at @pressisionltd , the covers harmonise in their distinct culmination of this first-of-its-kind collaboration between paper, sound, and design.

Today we’re celebrating the retirement of Bill Wrate after an incredible 39 years of service👏
Bill began his career at G . F Smith in October 1985, starting his journey in the Sample Room. He then spent time in the office providing superb customer service from the offset, and over time has gained icon status from nurturing long standing relationships with colleagues and customers alike. A fond time of Bill’s experience at G . F Smith was life out on the road as a paper rep - he covered the whole of London on his own 🚗
An absolute fountain of knowledge, there is nothing Bill doesn’t know about paper, print and production!
Bill’s favourite part of his career has been working with his great colleagues past and present, and we are in unanimous agreement that the honour is all ours.

Behind the scenes of the paper collage workshop station in full swing this time last week at the opening of @nowgallerySE10 ’s 2024 Design Commission, Up In Smoke, a vibrant collaboration between @john_booth and @can_agram 🌈✂️✏️
Celebrating the industrial history of Greenwich Peninsula and presenting a vision for a reimagined, colourful future, Up In Smoke is showcasing a vibrant installation of 5 supercharged chimneys.
Under one of the chimneys you can find the Up In Smoke collage workshop station, which G . F Smith is proud to support by providing paper offcuts from our factory in Hull. Visitors are invited to get playful with paper and create their individual interpretations of the show.
Up In Smoke is open all summer until the 22nd September 2024, make sure you go and check it out and add your collage to the collection!

#ColorplanVinyl Designer Spotlight: Lucy Michaela 🌗 Today we are diving into the details and creative journey behind @lucymichaela ’s design ⬇️
Using graphic design, photography, video, and sound design, Lucy’s work focuses on her desire to create an immersive world around the subject she creates. Lucy particularly enjoyed designing the vinyl cover due to her interest in the process of crafting visual identities for music and musical artists.
Her multidisciplinary artistic approach to the project is heavily inspired by nostalgia, otherworldliness and the desire to explore the intersection between the internet and our natural world.

Did you know that the Munken Design range has a new addition? Available exclusively in the UK through G . F Smith, Munken ID is a specially developed version of Munken Design for HP Indigo presses. It's surface has been adapted for best performance, toner adhesion and print quality, making it an excellent house sheet option because of its storage make stability, with no shelf life or ageing issues!
Despite Munken ID's adapted surface, the paper retains the same characteristics as Munken Design - an FSC-certified paper with an uncoated smooth surface, giving a true natural paper feel.

#ColorplanVinyl Designer Spotlight: Ishita Garg 🌈 Today we are diving into the details and creative journey behind Ishita’s design ⬇️
Ishita’s practice is driven by her desire to express herself creatively through designing visual communications that positively influence individuals and the industry.
Comparing the soundtrack to the circle of life, Ishita’s interpretation represents happiness, joy, struggle and sorrow through colourful brush strokes with varying pressure levels. Her design responded to the rhythm of the music, resulting in a combination of light, heavy, and continuous strokes, with some line breaks in between.

#ColorplanVinyl Designer Spotlight: Harley Whitney💥🌊 Today we are diving into the details and creative journey behind @harleyjwdesign ‘s work ⬇️
Embarking on a journey to merge the vinyl’s audio and inspired by the multifaceted landscape of design, Harley chose to explore the soundscapes of the vinyl through interactive media.
Captivated by the sounds of Colorplan, Harley used TouchDesigner to visually translate his emotional response by creating a display of moving particles that reflect the breathing rhythm and interplay of sounds. Divided into three respiratory stages – inhale, exhale, and gas exchange – the design seeks to encapsulate the essence of the music’s journey.
To enhance the experience beyond the paper, he used augmented reality to create an interactive motion version of the design, inviting viewers to explore the fusion of sound and visuals in a unique way.
