The Singing Bowl (An Ode to Bronze)
My origins are lost to time.
No written word, no spoken rhyme.
To tell how ancients first refined,
The shimmering stones, so newly mined.
In purifying baths of flame,
The bonded metals, thus reclaimed.
The copper spiced with tin became,
The alloy of exalted fame.
Immune to ravages of time,
It's majesty knows no decline.
And crafted into forms sublime,
A bronze will outlive human kind.
From purest metals, mixed to pass
Exacting virtues of the class.
A gilded disc must first be cast
By keepers of the hallowed craft.
Six artisans, together hone
The disc, into a gleaming dome.
A hundred times or more, I’m thrown
Through fire and ice, to mould my tone.
Some 30 hours of heart and soul
Worked fervently into my whole
Yield healing timbres, with each toll
The sweet psalm of The Singing Bowl.

Spot the lighthouse! 🔎
As beautiful as the rugged Cape Naturaliste is, it's a tough environment for passing ships and boats 🛳️⚓
Before the lighthouse was built, few captains knew about the Naturaliste Reef that extends 30km north of the cape, or the rocky granite along the coastline.
There were 16 ships wrecked before the lighthouse was built in 1903. For almost 120 years this lighthouse has kept sailors safe at sea.
