This is my every day cup. I sleep next to it. I look at it and think about it often.
It is without a doubt one of my favorite things I’ve ever made, from my first wood firing Summer ‘23.
It may be rough in some spots, not “perfect”, symmetrical or particularly thought out at all, but I love all the little places where subtle nuances of color and texture emerge throughout. In some ways I imagine it made itself, since I barely remember ~doing~ anything.
To me it feels as spontaneous as it does simple, like the clay is still moving. It makes me happy and reminds me of what I love so much about ceramics and making things in general. When we’re willing to let go of our most precious ideas of ourself we may be surprised with what we find in the process, detaching from outcome. Send one up to the kiln gods☝️

About 8 months ago I returned from @andersonranchartscenter back in NY trying to figure out where I was headed with my work. Under the guidance of @chuchoralph & @jj_peet , very quickly my world had been turned upside down as far as what one “can” do with with clay, it’s surface, color, texture, adjunct materials and the firing range. Their workshop kicked loose a spontaneity and freedom I couldn’t have anticipated. I still feel like I’m reeling from the conversations, lessons and encouragement to move in new directions. This vase was among the first pieces I made once I got back in the studio. Looking forward to sharing more soon✌️

Thrown by the illustrious @blockbouillon , this piece was sitting around for a while before I went for it, trying a lot of new processes at the time (2021)

I used underglaze, underglaze pencils, wax resist and coats of tinted clear glaze sprayed over top to make the piece feel like cell animation.

I never really shared/ documented this, but it’s grown to be one of my favorite pieces 😌

This was a piece I made sometime last year. An experiment in making a posable clay figure. As careful as I was glazing, all the movable pieces fused together in the firing. While documenting some work, old & new, I decided the crack the joints free. The rest I just got carried away with, but perhaps there’s something I’ll investigate further 🤔
