🚨 STAGED READING OF MY NEW PLAY @halifaxfringefestival !!! 🚨 🎟️ tickets available in stories / link in bio I am writing a new play! It’s a full draft now! And there are actors !! WHEN WILL YOU BE WELL AGAIN? will be performed at the Halifax Fringe Festival at the Neptune Imperial Room (1593 Argyle St.) on Saturday, September 2, 8 to 9 p.m. Sunday, September 3, 4 to 5 p.m. featuring: Lara Lewis Lou Campbell Shelley Thompson Laura Spencer about the play: Maya works in corporate marketing. June works in mental health advocacy. Both are chronically ill. To survive the medical and corporate worlds they inhabit, each takes a shift doing both their jobs at once, while the other rests. What happens when they want to be awake, together? This is a staged reading of an absurdist play that explores experiences of navigating the medical system as trans and diversely chronically ill people, as well as the nature of work, productivity, exhaustion, and isolation. If you came to see my solo reading in April and you liked the concept, I’d love for you to see how it’s grown! If you didn’t see it then, see it now! Tell me u love it/abhor it/don’t understand it! Get mad at ur 9-5s! [Photo Description] The play title, date and time, and Katie’s name are written on a pale blue doctor’s prescription pad in handwriting. The Neptune Theatre address is written on the pad where a doctor’s address would be. Above the note is the Halifax Fringe Festival logo in blue and red.

Home Bodies 💌 thank u to everyone who made this so lovely, who came to see and touch and write and sit with my small rooms. I didn’t know how people would engage with the bedroom, but I’m so grateful for the way it changed each time I came back to it. One person left sticky notes all over the walls and another filled them in with to do list items. One visitor would throw the clothes over the chair and the next person would fold them back up. Many left sweet sweet notes — to me or to themselves or others. Someone wrote out shakespeare’s sonnet 116. I wish I could fit all the little intimacies into these 10 pictures. Thank you @easternfronttheatre & everyone who made such wonderful things. Bonus pic of me wearing the lil dress that JRB mailed me from my childhood closet, I’m grateful for that kid and all they did to get me here.

@nicothepoet made a poem the other day and I read it and then I went to a drag show and felt grateful to be seen seen seen and held held held. I borrowed some of their words for the title and worked from their tender concept. Thank you Nico. Thank you trans family. I don’t have enough words or the right words but here are some. Thank you X & Elle for a soft trans place to land on Sunday.

Translations is what I dream every set environment should be ❤️ so grateful for this week of trans joy and connection, and the opportunity to work with such special people. Thank you, @shelley.thompson.2017 , for your vision on this, and for everyone on the team who made the world work. You made a space filled with so much joy, vulnerability, and tenderness. Shelley has done so much to make these trans stories and stories of trans support networks accessible to the world, especially to rural queer and trans people and audiences. Her work is exceptional on so many levels, and I feel it can help with the difficult task of building stronger allies — not by making transness “palatable” to the cis gaze or cisnormative, but by putting trans joy at the forefront, always. Thank you to all the new and old friends on set. Special thanks to Evey, for teaching me to fish (I am scared of fish if you can’t tell) and to @insta_gram_nash for being my talent show co-host and comedy queen. Wish I had 1936482 more pics in this carousel because everybody is so handsome 😔 Queer camp forever! Happy pride, free Pall is tine, it’s a great month to call your MP, purchase some e-sims, and donate to GFMs (link in my bio!).

Woah!!!! I’m feeling so FRICKEN grateful for the dozens of people who made filming Jonah with the AFCOOP Film 5 program possible last weekend. Jonah is a film for my lil repressed queer 16 year old self, and I think they would be so proud of me. It’s a film about trying to learn tenderness and love when you have no roadmap, and often getting it really, really wrong. Thank you to my producer & sweet friend Jimmy @jamesarthurmaclean for producing this. You are my dream collaborator !! Thank you @chelseainnes for your patience and trust and for translating everything into STUNNING shots, and @sophieeschade for being an overall genius and keeping us all cool calm collected and on time with help from Chabinaa & Nicole, who knew where my head was when I didn’t. Thank you to Chel, Ashley, Jenn and Amber, & Manoela for making the 2016 aesthetic absolutely SPOT ON. Thanks to @thebossstitch for making our exceptional team sweaters possible (Northwest Collegiate 4ever!!!) Thank you @ailsagalbreath as Script Super for being my saviour and reminding me of all the tiny moments we will need to put this together. Thank you @agmaomao for the quickest focus throws around, and @jjjoelwaddelll for managing sound (and my anxieties) with a touch of magic. Thanks to Liise for helping with the intimacy storytelling with such care. Thank you Mel, Kelly, Alice, Morgan, Eric, Orange, Marion (see pic 5 for me SO pleased with her catering), Ian, Cody, and Aaron. Thank you @stephjoline for your mentorship and support. Thank you @atlasphotographyhfx for these magic photos. Thank you to our exceptional cast for your trust and banter. Thank you to @swtbbt for teaching me real safe tenderness and making it possible for me to reach back to these other times where it felt impossible. Also my therapist Leslie she has been putting in the work to make this film possible for years!! Unbeknownst to either of us until now!! Thank you to the Film 5 2024 cohort for making filmmaking joyful (and for the last minute sound tips, @oliviavking you’re my hero!!). If you’ve read this far I love u okay byeee!!!
