Aminan Rahman, 46, is facing life in jail for throttling his young wife in front of her TikTok lover and throwing her body, hidden inside a suitcase, into a tributary of the River Thames.

He was found guilty by a jury at the Old Bailey of murdering 24-year-old Suma Begum in a flat in east London on the night of 29 April 2023.

The killing was witnessed by Ms Begum’s two children as well as her online boyfriend via a video call from the United Arab Emirates (UAE), where he was living.
ㅤ
Rahman then stuffed Ms Begum into a suitcase while she was either dead or unconscious and was caught on CCTV dumping it in the River Lea, which runs through east London to the Thames.
ㅤ
The suitcase containing her decomposed body was found washed up on the river bank by a mudlarker 10 days later.
ㅤ
The court heard that Ms Begum’s boyfriend, Shahin Miah, 24, had recorded an online video of the events leading to her death, which was later handed to police.
ㅤ
Mr Miah sobbed in court as he described a video call from Rahman in which he threatened to kill Ms Begum, who was on the bed in the background.
ㅤ
Rahman also threatened to kill Mr Miah, who was in the UAE at the time, the court heard.
ㅤ
Mr Justice Bennathan remanded Rahman into custody to be sentenced on 31 July.

A 17-year-old student who was on a school trip has died after efforts to rescue him from the sea in West Sussex.

Emergency services received a call of concern for the teenager’s welfare in the water at a beach in West Wittering, near Chichester, at around 1pm on Tuesday.

Sussex Police said the boy was part of a group from Uxbridge College who were visiting the area.
ㅤ
He was airlifted to hospital where he was pronounced dead, and his family have been informed, a spokesman added.

Super-fast 4G and 5G mobile coverage has been introduced in the Elizabeth line tunnels in central London.

The roll-out of the mobile network has been expanded to include the five miles of tunnels between the Royal Oak portal west of Paddington through to Liverpool Street.

This allows passengers to make phone calls, watch TV and stream videos while travelling.

Seventy-two signs – one for each life lost in the 2017 fire – have been placed in the area of Grenfell Tower.

The yellow signs, usually seen in shops warning customers to watch their footing in a spillage, read “Caution, Slippery Politicians”.

Justice4Grenfell group organiser Yvette Williams said: “Let us not slip up again on hollow promises from politicians; we need real change and real commitments to stop Grenfell being another scandal about the failures of government, including its failures of accountability.”

She urged voters: “When you are putting your X in the box, just remember Grenfell.”

Seven years on from the disaster, campaigners, bereaved and survivors have said little has been learned and complained about recommendations from the Grenfell Tower Inquiry phase one report still not being implemented.

The final report of the Grenfell Tower Inquiry will be published in September.
