So my week at Hot Bed Press has come to an end and it’s been so productive. I brought these large prints in to help inspire the colour choices for the inks on the smaller works that I was editioning (swipe to see).
It’s been perfect to have a room to myself so I could set up on the first day and leave everything as I needed it to be. I work best when I have my own space when printing, I need to be able to spread out and have everything where I want it to be, and sharing, well I find that a bit hard 😆 Best of all though was that each morning I could just pick up where I left off. I’d highly recommend working here if you are looking for some space to edition small works particularly.
I was so exhausted last night that I didn’t manage to update my stories about my day, but I will put a few images up now and my very lovely friend @mandomanderin took some fab video footage whilst I was printing so I can put some more reels together for you over the next week or so.
Thanks to all @hotbedpress for looking after me and hopefully I’ll be booking back in again soon.
As an aside… those blue ones would work quite well as a group of four framed together like that wouldn’t they?!? Do send over a DM if any of the new works have caught your eye.

Join me in the print studio this week via my stories, where I’ll be exploring and editioning a series of etching prints. First up is a two plate etching using a deep etch bottom plate inked up in both intaglio and relief, with a detail plate registered on top… decided on a slightly different combination of colours in the end but lovely to be able to show you part of the process.
On another note… I seem to be developing an uncanny knack for choosing the hottest weeks of the year to be in the print room so if you ever need to know when to book a UK holiday just let me know and I’ll check my diary for you ☀️☀️☀️

So here are the fruits of yesterday’s labour… Occultation, a single plate etching print on black Somerset paper which has a velvety depth and quality to it that I’ve not been able to match with the other black printmaking papers I use… absolutely lovely paper. And the final prints have a graphic, crisp feel, printed in white with the negative space of the circle so prominent due to the absence of any marks in that section of the composition. When I’ve printed this plate before I have done so along with different layers, so that space is filled too. This outcome has a really different feel to it.
And in other news, my printy reels seem to have been a hit with the algorithm, reaching both my lovely ‘already audience’ as well as people who have never seen my work before at all. I’m guessing that is what I should do a bit more of. And I will, but not this morning… I’m heading in for day 4 in the print room @hotbedpress and I’m going to be working today with reflections in my prints. Keep looking for my stories to follow along.
