First published in 1939, "Modern Man" revolutionised the way complex data was presented to a general public. Developed by the social scientist and political economist Neurath in collaboration with the graphic designer Marie Neurath and artist Gerd Arntz, the publication sought to unpack global trends in the history of humankind through a universal visual language called the “ISOTYPE” – a type of pictogram accompanied by texts.
