Our current exhibition, 'Lounge Odyssey' invites you to step into a peculiar parlour, a salon of the abstract. An off the wall exhibition of homewares, neon lights, furniture and tactile tufted pieces created by three artists from Thanet. Ellen Tufts Studio is a textile and tufting studio based in Margate. She takes a painterly approach to her tactile abstract tufted creations. With many echoing the bold colours and shapes of the Fauvist movement. She will be exhibiting a collection of new vases and wall pieces. Instagram: @ellen_tufts_studio Paul Thiry is an artist and furniture maker based in Margate. Making modern pieces with an abstract eye, he uses found materials to aid the decision making of the design, employing soft curves that mimic boy racer cars. He will be exhibiting stools, shelves and incense holders. @paulthiry_ Carson Parkin-Fairley is an artist based in Ramsgate. She explores themes of celebration and joy through the medium of lights, painting, and shrines. She will be exhibiting neon lights, paintings, furniture, and some of her iconic shrines. Instagram: @carsonparkinfairley The three artists will have individual pieces on show, whilst also showing a collaborative piece of furniture that they’ve all worked on together. Lounge Odyssey will run at Pie Factory from 30th June – 4th July 2023, open daily from 11-5pm. #margateoldtown #margate #margatecreatives

‘Theme and Variations’, is the current exhibition showing at Pie. Five artists: Helen Kirwan, Jane Madsen, James Swinson, Nicholas Addison and Othman Abdullah, meet again for their second show, the first having taken place in 2020 after the summer lockdown. The themes continue to gravitate towards the natural and built environment, ranging from photographic and filmic mediations on disappearing objects and technologies to emergent ones. The paintings in the show either record aspects of Margate or acknowledge it as a site of hybridity making a gentle play between abstraction and figuration. Exhibition opening times Friday 2nd September – 11am to 7pm Saturday 3rd September – 11am to 7pm Sunday 4th September – 11am to 6pm Monday 5th September – closed Tuesday 6th September – 11am to 6pm Wednesday 7th September – 11am to 2pm #Margate #margateoldtown #margatecreatives #art #artists

The current exhibition at Pie brings together 4 local artists, to create a wonderfully eclectic mix of work. John Laven is a landscape painter. He sees his work in the tradition of European painting stretching back to the late 18th century romantics. His focus is the force of nature imbued with anthropomorphic qualities of struggle and tension that exist at the frontiers and margins of a place, which exists both in real lived experience and in the imagination. E.J.Laven has spent most of her life living on the Kent coast and it is from this contrasting landscape, as well as the structures and objects found along the shoreline, that much of her work arises. Her ideas and observations are expressed through a diverse range of media – from sculpture and ceramics to painting, mixed media and installations and often explore concepts associated with the act of collecting and the relationship between curios and artefacts with their audience. Nicola Lebon has been exhibiting her paintings for the past twenty five years and started to work with Ceramics in 2017.Inspired by mythology and artefacts from the ancient world, creating creatures and spirts from her imagination.  Preferring to work with coloured clays, as this leaves a velvety matt finish in muted colours. Andrew Shrubb’s dark and imaginative drawings allow the viewer to enter his thoughts, no matter how uncomfortable this can be. Years of reading comics and listening to metal have infected his brain and he vomits this up, with his pen in hand, onto paper. This exhibition is open every day from 10am to 4pm and runs until Tuesday 3rd May. #Margate #margateoldtown #margatecreatives #margatebeach

‘Margate we missed you’ is the current exhibition at Pie Factory Gallery, presented by a trio of Kent artists, ‘Oh Malones’. The group have joined together to debut their latest paintings, prints, sculptures, ceramics and textiles, and each piece is designed to warm the soul and celebrate the feeling of joy or nostalgia. Each member of the group brings something different to this exhibition. The bolder colour palette from David’s upcycled pieces and prints, set alongside the soft and soulful pottery and pencil pieces from Angela’s studio perfectly compliment paintings by Steffany. The three had a simple idea, a celebration of summer holidays, of days out with friends. Over the last two years, many people have missed so much and ‘Margate We Missed You’ is a way for visitors to this exhibition to join in the merriment of Spring and Summer and all things art. Memories like watching the change in hues on the sands of your favourite beach, or remembering a cheeky pop of colour from wearing your sunniest shades to see a friend. This is what Angela, Steffany and David have been working on together, to celebrate in full colour. The exhibition is open 10.30-5.30 daily and runs until 20th April. @ohmalones #Margate #margatebeach #margateoldtown #margatecreatives #art #artists

Currently at Pie, Shoreline Partners present a curated selection of new work by 40 local artists, makers and creatives, inspired by the misquote of T.S. Elliot ‘Every moment is a fresh beginning’. These photos are from their private view on Thursday evening. Shoreline Partners are all from two of Thanet’s small independent art galleries: Westgate Galleria and our neighbours The Eclectic Art Gallery, Margate. These galleries are making a big impact on how emerging and established local artists and makers engage collectively and inclusively with their clients and local communities, and we are delighted to welcome them to the gallery. Works will be available for sale, and many of the artists will be in the gallery during the exhibition to talk to visitors.
