ANNOUNCEMENT 🤞🥵👀📣🚨🚀 We’re chuffed to bits to announce our 24-25 programme: THE ARTWORLD IS… ⚪🟡🟠 Let’s figure it out together. ➡️ On our travels in 2022 and 2023, we made a note of the words you used to describe the artworld as you saw it. It can be hard in this current creative climate to feel positive, see a way forward and feel proud of the culture we create. ➡️ As Short Supply enters our fifth year of programming we will bring our years of learning about the art scene in the North West and the UK into one programme of straight up DOING! ➡️ We’ll deliver 4 key events inviting artists to gather across various creative contexts, each addressing a range of the wants and needs we identified in our 22-23 programme of travel across the North West and through surveys and feedback we’ve received at events over the last year. Emerging artists need space to create, experiment and collaborate to aid their development and we want to give them access to that. Starting with 🥁: SCRATCH! We are now inviting creatives who are in the early stages of developing performance based work to submit proposals for a Scratch Night, in performance medium including but not limited to spoken word, film, sound, multi-disciplinary, durational or time-based work, digital work, pop-up performance, installation-based work and interventions. Past projects have proven that collaboration across different cultural sectors (art, music, dance) is enriching for artists, increasing audiences and participation. Scratch places live art front and centre, promoting the importance of experimentation and innovation across cultural contexts! How do we tell a story with images? What can queer narratives look like? How do we begin to interpret our own lives, and art from across history? Join us at the Lowry Galleries for a free workshop exploring art, Lowry and the self. This exciting new session will consist of a 30-minute tour of the Lowry Collection led by one of our Gallery Interpreters, followed by a collaging workshop hosted by Short Supply, an artist-led organisation based in the North West. During the session, you will be encouraged to reflect on the art you’ve seen, your own experiences, the concept of queerness itself. For lovers of art, self exploration, and collaging, this is not an event to miss! Participants are asked to bring images of significance in their own lives with them to work from as we explore collaging, reframing, repurposing and reappropriating of imagery. Materials will be provided, and for this session we welcome you to bring with you any photographs, artworks, documentation or other personal / collected images that you might like to include in your own artwork. ABOUT LAST WEEK… 🎤🎭🤹‍♀️👨‍🎤🎬🕴️ Oh my god we just adored Scratch last Friday!!!!!! What an absolute treat it was to enjoy niche skills, superb music, wavy visuals and just laugh together. The biggest news ever… Last day of pride month. Let’s go. 🏳️‍🌈 We are getting married!!!!! 😱🤯🫨🫣🫢 In September this year we’re heading down to Cornwall to tie the knot 🪢💍 As many of our closest friends know, we met on the first day of uni and we’ve been together ever since, pretty much! We never thought we’d get married, we thought we’d just be an eternal couple without all the paperwork, but then sometimes you change your mind and it’s beautiful!!!! 🥹 We’ve been putting off posting about this, we haven’t really know why, but we think it might be because there’s just been a bit of magic 🪄 to sneaking around just doing all the bits and knowing at the back of our minds this huge thing is coming… cats out of the bag now anyway 🐱 Planning has put our project management skills to the test in so many new ways and it’s so exciting and terrifying!!! We’re grown ups??? What??? After September we’ll be having some parties in different shapes and sizes in Manchester to celebrate with all of you so keep your eyes peeled for that! We’re so excited to celebrate this with our northern art family!!!!! 🙌🧡 Wish us luck? ✨ HAPPY PRIDE ✨ *Also want to say, that many many inspirational queer people put in decades of campaigning, protesting, debating and many more years of simply putting up with prejudice to change the worlds mind enough so that we could have this right!!! Are you an artist ready to showcase your creativity on an unconventional canvas? 🤔♻️ Brown Recycling invites you to participate in the Skip Art Challenge; an exciting and unique project that brings together 10 artists to transform ordinary skips into extraordinary works of art. 💥 Many of Brown’s skips have seen better days; but in the spirit of their zero-waste commitment (which see’s them already sending nothing they process to landfill!) they want to see these skips get refurbed and back out into the community; to make everyones day just that little bit brighter! 💥 The Brown Recycling Skip Art Challenge, developed in partnership with Short Supply, is a celebration of artistic expression, environmental sustainability and community spirit. 10 artists will get the exciting opportunity to transform some ordinary skips into extraordinary works of art, whilst also making a positive difference to the community. 💥 If that wasn’t enough, all proceeds from this campaign will be donated to Dougie Mac Hospice, a local hospice that provides essential care and support to individuals facing life-limiting illnesses 💛 About the challenge: Each of the 10 artists selected by the Skip Art judging panel will be provided with a Brown Recycling skip, which they will transform using their unique artistic style.
