Shipwreck. I found this lovely piece of driftwood a few years back. I finally got around to making some Wreck fish to add, to create this wall hanging with a shipwreck theme. It is always an honour to repurpose a piece like this, which once was hand crafted as a part of a boat. I start to wonder how old it may be, who shaped it and worked it originally. How far has it travelled and what life did the vessel have it was once part of. This will be on show at Hilbre studio, venue 10 @burnhamarttrail 22nd-30th June. It all starts today at 11am. Call of the wild. This calling Curlew is created from windfall branches, posing on an oak post. I treated this one to a trip out on location down by the river. It’s now June which can only mean one thing - it’s Burnham Art Trail month. It’s always the last week in June, the dates are Saturday 22nd - Sunday 30th. The Oyster smack Maria racing back with her days catch. Created from reclaimed materials, including a spent Maldon oyster carton I found washed up on the marshes on the river Crouch. These are made of a thin plywood, ideal for making sails me thought. 😊 Oyster smacks are one my favourite heritage sailing craft. I’m always amazed how much sail they can carry for the hull size. 😲 This and two barges are going to spend some time at the Maeldune Heritage Centre in Maldon.
