One week ago, we celebrated the Grand Opening of the new Sim Centre and Innovation Hub in partnership with the Waterloo Institute for Sustainable Aeronautics - WISA. @wisa_uw ✈️🍃 With an investment exceeding $1.8 million, this expansion of our Advanced Training Centre now houses three state-of-the-art simulators, including a Boeing 737 Max, a De Havilland Q400, and an Airbus 320. With this new facility and equipment, students will gain access to cutting-edge technology, elevating their training and preparing a future generation of Flight Deck Ready pilots. The facility at the Region of Waterloo International Airport is a model of green infrastructure and will allow researchers to collect data on human performance, fostering more efficient flight training. The simulators and green technology, such as upgraded HVAC systems and solar panels, were funded by an investment from the Government of Canada, totaling nearly $9.2 million, through the Federal Economic Development Agency for Southern Ontario (FedDev Ontario). Thank you to our federal, regional, and industry partners for supporting this initiative. Waterloo is leading the way as a world-leading hub for sustainable aeronautics! #Aviation #Innovation #Sustainability #WWFC #FlightTraining #GreenInfrastructure #Waterloo

🎉 Exciting News! On Friday, we celebrated the grand opening of the new Aviation SIM Centre and Innovation Hub! ✈️ We were joined by our federal funding partners, members of the Regional Council, regional leadership, airline partners, and media members to celebrate this exciting milestone. This state-of-the-art facility, developed in partnership with the Region of Waterloo International Airport (YKF) and the Waterloo Institute for Sustainable Aeronautics (WISA), houses three new flight simulators: a Boeing 737, De Havilland Q-400, and Airbus 320. These simulators will enhance our training programs, including an improved Multi-Crew Cooperation (MCC) curriculum component, and provide students with exposure to various aircraft types, better preparing them for future airline employment. The sims will also support advanced research initiatives for WISA researchers in the aerospace sector to create a more sustainable aviation future! The expansion adds 3,300 square feet, bringing the total to 10,000 square feet, with an investment of over $1.8 million. The green building practices include solar power supplementation, an upgraded energy-efficient HVAC system, and enhanced insulation for improved energy efficiency. We look forward to sharing more photos and videos from this exciting day. Join us in celebrating this milestone! #Aviation #Sustainability #Innovation #WWFC #YKF #WISA
