The South Korean National Assembly passed a law prohibiting dog meat on Jan.9, 2024!! On December 30, 2020, a National Assembly member proposed an amendment to the Animal Protection Law, stating that "no one should slaughter or/and sell dogs and cats for food”; however, even after almost 2 years now, it has not been even discussed. The reason why the cruel dog meat trade still exists in South Korea is because of the irresponsible neglect of the South Korean government and the National Assembly. We urge the “Consultative discussion committee on ending dog meat consumption” to declare an end to dog meat as soon as possible. In addition, we strongly urge the National Assembly to pass the bill to end dog meat as soon as possible.
