The visual arts is not alone in its efforts to decarbonise, change behaviour, and fight the climate crisis. Other sectors across the world - from film and TV to museums and fashion - are tackling similar challenges. Recently we were lucky enough to chat to Sara Kassam, Sustainability Advisor at UK Sport and former Sustainability Lead at the V&A, to discuss what the sport and art worlds have in common - and some things they might be able to earn from each other. 📣📣📣 GCC Book Club 📣📣📣 This month’s GCC Book Club selection is Museums and the Climate Crisis by Nick Merriman. Museums and the Climate Crisis shows how museums can respond to the interrelated global climate, biodiversity and pollution crises. Taking a broad approach beyond purely climate issues, the book touches on the use of renewables, environmental controls and standards, travel (including virtual couriering), waste management (including recycling, plastic reduction and composting), reducing pollution and increasing biodiversity within museums. We were lucky enough to speak to Nick Merriman about the book and his thoughts on how museums can help fight climate change. Over the years, several of our members have asked us how they can meet their carbon targets when their organisation is growing. This is an important question - growth is a huge topic for discussion that is constantly evolving, and today we’ve published our thoughts and advice in this ever-changing area. Head to the link in bio now to read more ➡️🔗 As always, we’d love to hear your feedback - send us a DM or reach out to a member of the team.

UN Climate Change partners with Art Charter for Climate Action The Art Charter for Climate Action (ACCA) is pleased to announce a partnership with UN Climate Change, to join and align efforts in uniting the arts and entertainment sectors in transformative climate action. The announcement was made at The Hope Forum held during the 60th Venice Biennale international art exhibition by Kay Mercé, Mitigation Division, UNFCCC Secretariat. “In order to achieve the goals of the Paris Agreement, it is essential that all sectors take transformative climate action now,” said UN Climate Change Executive Secretary Simon Stiell. “In addition to reducing its global emissions, arts and culture play a critical role in inspiring people to imagine and realise a low carbon, just and climate-resilient future.” The ACCA and UN Climate Change announcement was endorsed by Frances Morris, Director Emerita of the Tate Modern, who emphasized that “ACCA can and should be a common framework. But crucially, it can also be a network of networks for a green and just transition. From all corners of the world, linking grassroots to big shoots, we (the visual arts sector) can be united in our actions for the planet.” Learn more through the link in bio. @galleryclimatecoalition @cimam_museums @julies_bicycle @art2030org @unclimatechange #francesmarymorris @francesmarymorris #artcharter #artcharterforclimateaction Images courtesy of ART 2030.
