FKA twigs

a self portrait in venus through a two fold screen it has been a great honour to be asked to make a piece of work for the #thewildescape project with @artfund to encourage younger generations to connect with animals and nature through art. i was asked to make a response to a piece of work that was held in museums supporting the cause. i chose diego velázquez rokeby venus and shibata zeshin’s a two fold screen and created a self portrait reflecting on my own womanhood, my desire to carry on my lineage, my courage and the eternal divine order that we are all a part of on this earth through using the archetypes that we connect with the creatures in nature around us. it is important for me to express that a lot of love and support went into helping me create this in such a storm of inspiration from friends and collective members of @thefkafactory so i would like to take this moment to give great thanks to @jordan_hemingway <3 @tildax_x_ @louissouvestre @afrazamara @glassalexander @thomashogan #arthurvickery and @bradleypolkinghorne @tatyanaryujin @eleanorchaplino @purple_martin_studio @art___vic #anatrindad @ridauk @rapideye.darkroom ….. thank you to @esdevlin #markwallinger @taishani for such a wonderful morning spent presenting work for such an important cause. and a big thank you to erica bolton for thinking of me and @josefoconnor for facilitating the link <3 @natural_history_museum @aceagrams @wwf @wwf_uk @rspb_love_nature @nationaltrust @englishheritage

30.04.24 CONGRESS today i spoke infront of congress to senator coons, tillis, blackburn, hirono, klobuchar, welch and blumenthal about the importance of legislation to protect artists voice and likeness, art and intellectual property from the misuse of deepfakes and ai. i am passionate about exploring new technologies with the guise of expanding my art further and exploring new ways to express myself and reach fans, however it is imperative that at this dawn of great technological growth legislation is put in place to ensure that an artists likeness is controlled by the artist themselves. id like to thank @atlanticrecords and @rkyncl for asking me to be a part of important moment and my dad for helping me prepare for my speech. you are a wonderful father and role model, never did i think your encouragement to read more, to stay curious in education and you helping me do my math homework at the kitchen table would lead me here. you’re the best. i love you x thank you @ozwald_boateng for my suit styled @georgia.pendlebury dreads @louissouvestre hair styling @t.nickole_styles make up @julianwolfstoller nails @winkd_nails and special thanks to mimma viglezio for support and guidance, it takes a village x

on thursday the 18th of april, i made my debut as a dancer with the @marthagrahamdance company, performing ‘satyric festival song’ solo created by martha in 1932. “The rebellious spirit of Martha Graham has found a rebellious soul mate in another creative powerhouse” The New York Times. images shot by @cahlinetompkins for The New York Times. video taken from 1st dress rehearsal at the New York City Centre. performing this work by martha was beyond an honour. i want to firstly thank Janet Eilber, the artistic director of the martha graham dance company for trusting me with this work and guiding me through the nuances of this incredible solo. secondly i want thank @laureldalleysmith for guiding me through this solo and handing it down to me. watching your force of a vessel move was an honour to experience. i would not of been able to to do this and many other creative ventures that are yet to come out without my dear friend and talented creative polymath @meshhenry thank you for pushing me guiding me holding me through this experience i can’t wait to show the world everything we have been working on second slide are some clips from the tech rehearsal for those who have been asking! ps thank you @fkartwigs for the post inspo! you always do it best x
