✨WHO ARE WE? ✨ I suppose we better introduce ourselves for those who don’t already know, or those who happen to stumble across our page and want a little more insight as to why we do what we do… We are Mark & Rachael 👋🏼 We’ve been married 12 long years (yes, I had to check the math) and have 2 children aged 6 & 8. We love to step away from the daily grind and travel as much as life lets us. However, you wouldn’t catch us at an all inclusive in the Costa-Del-whatever, instead always choosing destinations where we can explore, seek out culture, art, history & of course, delicious food. @markkellettart is a local Portsmouth artist, who studied Fine Art at @uni_southampton_wsa and now runs the fine art A-Level at @hsdcfineart . @rachaeljkellett is currently the Finance Manager of a care agency and is also studying a part time degree in Psychology - with a focus on Childhood and Youth - with the @theopenuniversity . Juggling life, kids, work & study is always a challenge, but after our first spray painting event at @carfestevent (A big thank you to @thevintageparade for inviting us along) we found something that channeled both of our passions. Mixing Mark’s artistic talents and Rachael’s love of working with people, children & youth. So @popupspraystudios was born. With short term goals of being involved in more events to encourage people of all ages and abilities to to nurture their creative freedom, and long term goals of working within the community, providing SEND friendly, inclusive workshops for schools, skills hubs, home education settings and more! We believe strongly that art provides a safe space to encourage creative freedom and expression. Spray painting is such a universal artistic tool. Oh heyyy @markkellettart . Our resident artist, fine art lecturer at @be_hsdc @hsdcfineart & all round lovely guy 🤗 Mark is using his industry days off college effectively this week. He is prepping a mural wall down @playcepompey today, workshops & mural planning tomorrow at @cams_hill @camscreative , and hopefully (if the weather gods can keep it dry) back down PLAYCE to start the mural Friday. Oh and @popupspraystudios are at @portsmouthprideuk on Saturday - back with the @phdockyard @natmuseumrn creating more artwork to commentate @thtorguk aids memorial quilt… When I said we are busy this summer… we meant it!! 🫠

Proper old school activities inc. splat the rat, coconut shy, sack races, tug of war & so much more! I know artisan markets are all the rage these days, but give me a market where I can give the kids a hand full of 50p’s & tell them to go have fun any day 🙌🏼 (They say whilst fully aware that we are one of the more expensive activities that require adult supervision…)

Fun times last weekend at @phdockyard @natmuseumrn 🤗 Thank you for having us be part of your project & thank you to everyone that popped by to create artwork with us! We can’t wait to see all of your work at the @phdockyard installation this summer, alongside the @thtorguk Terry Higgins AIDS Memorial Quilt ⚓️ We are doing it all again at @portsmouthprideuk so if you would like to be part of the project, come pop by our stall on 6th July to create some artwork, and learn from the experts all about Terry Higgins’ life & legacy 🫶🏼

To commemorate Terry Higgins, the first named person in the UK to die of an AIDS related illness, this summer @popupspraystudios are humbled & honoured to be working in collaboration with @natmuseumrn to facilitate their “Navy Threads” community project 🌟⚓️ The Terry Higgins AIDS Memorial Quilt will be displayed at the Portsmouth Historic Dockyard over the summer. We would like the Portsmouth community to help create as many spray painted “patchwork” squares as possible, which will be collated and displayed alongside the quilt this summer. Valid Portsmouth Historic Dockyard ticket holders can spray paint TWO patchwork squares with us for FREE on 15th & 16th June. One to proudly take home, and one to be displayed at the @phdockyard over the school summer holidays. Not a valid ticket holder or can’t make it down this weekend?
