Super late to the post, but being on this job for @thevoiceau & @jasonderulo was a surreal bucket list moment 🥹 All the love & respect to my brother @maikolo_fekitoa for trusting me. We’ve been rocking together since we were kids in West Syd & to be on this job under his guidance was a crazy full circle. So proud g 👑 Also a huge s/o to his incredible partner in crime @justrechelle_ who carried us all week alongside Kolo. Power couple ting. An extra s/o to the whole team for being so vibrant & making this week what it was 🫶🏾 Another huge thank you to @jesse_rasmussen & @movelikewater_mlw for backing me this week & for the work you guys do behind the scenes. Actually outta this world & I learnt bucketloads being on this job 🙌🏾 The final thank you goes to my wife, @raachuuul ! I was going to turn this gig down because our son hadn’t been born yet. I didn’t want to be a liability to the gig, but Rach insisted we would make it work. The final 2 days of tech/stage runs & shooting she was in hospital, slowly going into labour. The whole family rallied around us & were there for her amidst it all. I wrapped the final take, sprinted to my car, drove back out to Blacktown Hospital from Disney Studios & my beautiful son Ezekias was born this very same day 👶🏽 Glory to God for the patience, strength & grace amidst this chaotic week. Words fuelled by inspiration & faith materialised 9 years later as @kingdomculturecompany competed at Body Rock 2024 for the first time 🫀 I still haven’t processed what we just did, but my heart is filled to the brim realising we stepped onto what I consider the Mount Everest of stages. I’ve known for a long time that KCC made sense on a stage like this, so it wasn’t a matter of if we could - more so when. Thank you to my team for always trusting whatever direction I take. Considering we’d never hit a rock track, this was a first. The song has been a KCC theme song for fitness since OG days, but it took deeper roots as I envisioned what this would be. To my choreo team - @ejonmp @asian_jonah @pieretamargo @faldeeze @raachuuul - thank you for building this alongside me for the past 6-7 months. I’ve never been more proud of a KCC piece. There are many other key voices in our faculty/ non faculty who helped with details we’d missed or ideas we’d never thought of. Special mentions to @babyfacequills02 @j.nool @ra_chelli @natalielin25 @sudowoodou in particular for the above. To the media team spearheaded by the brilliant @pieretamargo , thank you for bringing the vision to life on screen. Surreal to even see my own editing up there & grateful to all the hands who animated, cut pictures & laid down serious time to bring forth that vision. Thank you @natalielin25 @bellabarcelon_ @babyfacequills02 @marcya.fugawai & more I may have missed. The above is largely a reminder to all that it takes a village. The inception of this idea came from my mind, but it took a village to build it. My choreo, blocking, transitions and ideas are flooded throughout the set, but it still took a village to build it. My heart is laid out through this piece, but it took a village to deliver it. To all 30 of you beside me on stage, thank you for the moments unseen, shared in the week leading up to comp. KCC Mega’s comp SZN begins tomorrow, but SZN 24 kicked off last week at our first ever KCC Summer Camp 🏕️ Our team supercharged our year into action with a weekend away at @thecollaroycentre ! From a games night of Olympic proportions, a full day of intensive workshops with our faculty, a choreographing & teaching breakdown/presentation, a team choreo assignment w/ each group choreographing the same track & a final beach reflection day - it was an incredible inaugural camp experience for our team as we enter our 10th SZN in action 👑 Where will KCC compete in 2024?! There’s a sense of pride in the unpredictability of a KCC performance, as long as the quality of dancing is maintained. It also represents the diversity in our faculty & highlights the many faces that build KCC. This year we did a single track (as opposed to the big typical crew mashups) for 95% of our performances. It can seem draggy/boring, but I enjoyed utilising an artist’s cohesive body of work over chopping it up. There’s no right or wrong, but it’s definitely been a great training tool to ensure we create meaningful/quality/engaging work that doesn’t feel like a drag to watch. Suspects 23’ ☠️ West Syd is repped most authentically on a crew comp stage when you see Sus up there. 10+ years of lineage within the crew scene out west, competing under crews like Prolifique, Supreme, Scenario, Boondocks & Delinquents, eventually leading to Suspects taking on the World this year 🌎 2023 was madness trying to juggle Suspects & KCC for HHI + KCC for DP + run the Studio + be a present Father & Husband. My mental, emotional, physical, spiritual & creative capacity was stretched to its thinnest. However this space always fills my cup, because I’m not needing to wear any other hats or be responsible for anyone else - I can just focus on me with Suspects. These are 8 of my closest friends & I can’t describe how utterly euphoric it was finishing the set on stage at HHI Worlds Prelims. A top 3 moment in my dance career because these are people I’ve been in the trenches with for 10 years. The what ifs, doubts & regrets can strangle us when results unfold, but I’ll go to war everyday of the week as long as the gang is beside me 🤝 Priorities are shifting in my life & this will be my last Suspects comp for a little while, but I’m not hanging up these boots just yet. To all of you, especially Captain @faldeeze - I’m always Sus & always gonna ride for the gang. Thank you for holding onto this for so long, trusting your own unique vision & trusting me to be part of what you + other West OGs built.
