Going through a stem cell transplant can be incredibly hard. The stem cell transplant process is an amazing thing, giving many people a second chance of life that would be otherwise impossible, but the treatment itself can be really tough - mentally as well as physically. Today Nick, a clinical psychologist, talks about three signs of PTSD that you may notice in yourself or your loved ones. Please know that we’re here to support you every step of the way - and if you or your loved ones need any support, please call us on 0303 303 0303, or email patientinfo@anthonynolan.org #PTSDAwarenessDay @newcastlehosps
Is there anything we can do in advance of a loved one undergoing a stem cell transplant to prevent or minimise the mental health impacts?

I’m 6 years post sct & this makes a lot of sense to me. Adjusting to the physical changes & what is now manageable is a challenge for sure but the mental fall out is also huge & unexpected - feels like a whole other me now. I’m forever thankful for my wonderful donor & so much to be grateful for as so many also need their match 🙏 but I miss some of the old me too ❤️
