Why does art by women artists remain in the depot? Broncia Koller-Pinell's work Marietta was actually intended for the Kunstschau Wien 1908 and was even delivered, but was ultimately not allowed to take part in the official exhibition. We can only speculate as to why. Perhaps it was too provocative for a woman to paint a nude in the context of the time? Perhaps people were envious of this modern approach to a subject that had previously been worked on mainly by male artists? The exhibition „Broncia Koller-Pinell. An Artist and her Network“ is currently on show at the Lower Belvedere.

Warum bleibt Kunst von Künstlerinnen im Depot? Broncia Koller-Pinells Werk Marietta war eigentlich für die Kunstschau 1908 vorgesehen, wurde auch angeliefert, durfte jedoch schlussendlich nicht an der offiziellen Ausstellung teilnehmen. Warum, können wir nur mutmaßen. Vielleicht war es im damaligen Kontext es zu provokant als Frau eine Aktdarstellung zu malen? Vielleicht war man neidisch auf diese moderne Herangehensweise an ein Sujet, das bisher hauptsächlich von männlichen Künstlern bearbeitet wurde? Die Ausstellung „Broncia Koller-Pinell. Eine Künstlerin und ihr Netzwerk“ ist aktuell im Unteren Belvedere zu sehen.
