The Andrée Putman Lifetime Achievement Award was founded to celebrate a design icon that has made a profound impact on the world of art, architecture and design.
This year’s recipient is a master of crafting joy, using pliable materials to evoke humor and the bright side of the human experience. He is led by his guiding principle that modernism is less a style than a method for interpreting the present, and hinting at the future in which individuality is preserved and celebrated.
Today his work is featured in the permanent collections of over 30 of the most significant museums around the world including MoMa and the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York, Vitra Museum in Germany, Victoria and Albert Museum in London and the Pompidou Center and Louvre here in Paris.
He said in a recent interview, “I use materials that are part of my time, not materials that are part of the past. I try never to look to the past because the future is better than the past. The past is a rigid moment, the future is elastic, open to everything.”
We are beyond honored this evening, in the presence of his family and dear friends, to present the 2024 Andrée Putman Lifetime Achievement award to Gaetano Pesce.
