DISCLAIMER: Do not attempt to assist a hatch without consulting an experienced breeder *Emergency Assisted hatch* This gosling pipped the opposite side of egg, into the membrane layers which contain blood vessels and veins. She should have pipped into The air sac (cell) on the opposite side! Luckily i caught this in time before she suffocated or drowned from the internal liquids. This was one of the most challenging hatches. I slowly peeled away shell and membrane.. as soon as i saw blood.. i stopped for a few hours before proceeding again. each time I opened the incubator I had to blast it with more humidity- I knew the yolk would have issues absorbing into her bc i assisted ( yolk absorbs when baby does all the hatching by itself) . i got her head and neck out of the egg but left lower part of her intact, inside of egg, with a warm wet paper towel around egg so yolk could absorb. (Keeping the yolk moist is key or it won’t absorb resulting in death) Hours later she broke out of the egg on her own, trying to stand and walk! The yolk absorbed but her bellybutton wasn’t closed fully! i put Neosporin on it, and back in the incubator til her bellybutton closed! #sebastopolgeese #goslings #hatchingeggs #backyardchickens #backyardducks #geese #goose
