“PHIL KNIGHT” SOLD 🔴 40 x 30 Oil, acrylic/dirt compound mix, aerosol on wood panel 2024 This piece is now on view at @inked_nyc as a part of my solo show URBAN SYMPHONY. Exploring the juxtaposition between the rich and the poor this painting is specifically about my dad and my grandpa. My dad grew up in Mexico fixing shoes as a kid for side money. Huaraches were most common among them which my grandpa wore everyday until his death hence APM. When my dad moved back to the states as a young adult he was obsessed with basketball and sneakers. He collected and hoarded nikes as a result of his circumstances in Mexico having been enamored with American culture. Visually the piece also represents the urban landscape in Los Angeles. Big businesses and corporations advertising in rural neighborhoods as the city enters an ongoing battle to cover up gang graffiti. All these identities together coalesce into an urban symphony and at the end of the day NIKE doesn’t give a fuck about the struggle but we’re still gonna buy their shoes.
