Yesterday, George Crumb passed away at 92 at his house in Pennsylvania.
.
I only have words of thanks for him. Putting aside his music, his humanity was above this world. A very few times in my life I met someone so generous, kind and humble. A true Maestro.
.
From the moment we met, he supported me no matter what. I remember my first trip to Pennsylvania, on a snowy day, waiting at the train station where George himself came driving with his car to pick me up (he was 88!). I remember being on the passenger's seat thinking: I am seated with George Crumb in his car! I remember sharing a glass of "Chopin Vodka" while he told me amazing stories while I was literally in shock because I was able to meet him.
.
Some more meetings came after that one, and he always had kind words and time for me asking nothing in return.
.
His music opened my mind, my ears and my heart. It showed me universes and sensations above this world. To perform his music became something almost sacred, almost like a ritual where I felt connected to something bigger.
.
Crumb as a musician and as a person became a role model to me, and as a friend once told me: "All what your elders give to you, is a debt to pay with the next generation" and I will make sure to pay my debt.
.
Thank you maestro for making the world a more magical place with your music.
.
Thank you for inviting me to your house, for listening to me, for the amazing stories you told me and for your unconditional support.
.
The world is a better place because of your music, which is inmortal.
