CreativeMornings San Francisco and The Archery are co-hosting a Creative Happy Hour during SF Design Week to bring together local creatives such as artists, designers, architects, musicians, filmmakers, writers, and more.  📅 June 7th from 3pm to 5pm 📍 @thearcherysf 🎟️ Registration link in bio 🥂 The goal of the event is to create an environment in which creatives can connect, be inspired and maybe even find new partners for their next project. Our event will feature selected creatives with a few minutes of stage time each. From presentations to performances: everything is welcome. The theme of SF Design Week is “Attention” and here we'll be focused on the intersection of attention and sustainability. Our first (failed) attempt at making a mycelium frame for one of our wall-mounted pieces. The main reason it didn't work out is because we were trying to rush the process and used a strain of oyster mushroom that we had never used before, and not enough growing time. We need to remind ourselves that we're collaborating with different organisms that don't have the same timelines than we do! Happy spring. This was our first time showing work virtually! The pavilion is called ‘Server of Flesh’ organized by @projetlitote and is part of @thewrong.biennale . Our exhibition is an exploration of virtual growth. We wanted to capture our current aesthetic style and material palette. As we were putting it together, we spent time thinking about how other organisms and species can exist in our virtual spaces. We created an installation that we set up in this virtual space along with 10 other artists: Alexandra Ercoli, Angelica Verdan, Curro Rodriguez-Sanchez, David Bellemare, Glosopeda (Rachel Lamot + Kim Rosario), Michael Patten, Pedro Gossler, Philippe Caron-Lefebvre, Wednesday Kim, Zander Porter, and us, 10th Floor Studio. UPPER MARKET GALLERY is pleased to present RAE GODIN’s curatorial debut in SOCLE DU MONDE - French for ‘base of the world’, a group show that begs the questions: “What holds up the world?” “Does a master of materials allow us to better understand our world?” SOCLE DU MONDE takes its name from Piero Manzoni’s “SOCLE DU MONDE (1961),” a minimalist bronze plinth sculpture Manzoni turned “UPSIDE DOWN” to support the weight of the world. SOCLE DU MONDE is an exhibition whose chief aim is to explore the ways artists perceive what supports the weight of the world. Physical structures, social structures, and relationship structures are essential to our ongoing understanding of the world; however, these are ever-shifting and sometimes unreliable. SOCLE DU MONDE showcases works that convey, either conceptually or materially, what keeps the world known, safe, and tangible, preventing it from being undone. For obvious reasons related to structure, this exhibition convenes primarily sculpture, addressing a crucial need for a spotlight on excellent contemporary sculpture in the Bay Area. As promised, here’s a look into our process for making Hyphal Fidelity, our mycelium Hi-Fi Speakers. We embrace the idea of fungal reclamation by reusing components from retired Klipsch™️ KG1.2 speakers. This project challenged us in many new ways. This is the first piece where we wanted the mycelium to have a this level of precision, in order to properly fit and secure the speaker components. We designed with tight tolerances and the components perfectly thread into the embedded aluminum parts 👌. HYPHAL FIDELITY Mycelium Hi-Fi Speakers We finally did it! Following all of the positive responses to our Boombox piece, we decided to turn it up a notch and make a pair of mycelium hi-fi speakers. This project challenged us in many new ways. This is the first piece where we wanted the mycelium to have a this level of precision, in order to properly fit and secure the speaker components. We designed with tight tolerances and the components perfectly thread into the embedded aluminum parts 👌. In the process, we also learned that the lower density of the mycelium doesn’t benefit the quality of the sound. We can’t wait to get the dedicated @entropicsonics piece playing through them. These speakers were just selected as a winning project in a bio-design contest hosted by @grow.bio We’ll share more about our process in some upcoming posts, and are working on some opportunities for you all to experience them in-person.
