Q: Do you receive Curly Haircuts or Blow Outs to remove dead ends? This was her first CURLY HAIRCUT. She usually gets a blow out to cut her hair to remove dead ends, but wanted her curls to have more volume with a fringe to frame her face. She additionally stated she never knew Curly Haircuts were a thing until social media. I didn’t see a high demand as a professional myself for this particular service until DEVA CURLS became so popular. Unfortunately they faced serious adversity pertaining to their hair products and they are hardly spoken of or mentioned today. I have high density hair but it’s most high in the nape area which steers me away from ever wanting to try a Curly Haircut. I will always have this illusion of an Inverted Bob Haircut when wearing it curly/textured or possibly lose length in areas that are not as high in density to match the higher density areas 😅 it’s so much to consider when doing a Curly Haircut to have the best outcome. It’s more than just creating a shape. Sometimes, you can unintentionally create the wrong shape if you are only focused on the technique of shaping. #austinhairstylist #austinhair #austinhairsalon #austincurlyhairstylist #austincurls #cedarparkhair #cedarparkhairstylist #cedarparkhairsalon

🤓This is an opportunity to educate and inform, and if you can offer that, I would greatly appreciate if you left a comment. 🎙️In this conversation on “Hair What I’m Saying,” as we discuss beauty standards and racial biases, our guest, Nia Ford of I Bless Faces, shares her encounter with a comment that we, as black women, hear far too often about our curly hair. 🤎Nia continues to express black women’s discomfort when advocating for themselves in spaces where their authenticity is questioned. It’s a continuous cycle of defending our identity and the respect of our personal choices without coming off as “aggressive.” ❓Have you ever had this experience before? If so, how did you show up for yourself? If you didn’t self advocate, what held you back? If you have never had this experience, let us know how you would address it in the comments. topic: Black Women using sew-in/wigs to protect their hair from THEMSELVES. ‼️There’s no finishing style at the end of this video. This is a conversational piece I often have with my clients and want to share with you all‼️ Taking care of naturally curly hair can be difficult specifically for us black women who spent our pre-teen and some adult years chemically altering our hair to be straight ORRRRRRRR….some of us, especially if you were born in the 80s or before, altered your curl pattern with a JERRY CURL to soften and loosen tight curl patterns and minimize the thickness. So I often hear my clients shame themselves for being grown and not knowing how to care for their hair. It’s nothing to be ashamed of when you were never taught. Just know it is a journey you may have to consider journaling, but it’s not something patience and commitment can’t overcome. It’s completely fine to use hair extensions and braids as a means of protection from yourself until you figure out the necessities and resources to take care of it. Just make sure to invest in a professional who understands how to maintain the integrity of your hair while installing, during, and after installation. I’ve recommended two professional brands for cleansing and conditioning your hair and scalp. However, mastering the motor skills required for styling and proper manipulation will require either investing time with a professional to educate you on how to take care of your hair or practicing on your own to develop muscle memory. These products can be purchased in my Amazon Store. Link is located in the bio. 🔑Also understand you will need to remove the extensions to learn. It’s scary but it can be done with KNOWING how and WHAT to do with your hair. The unknown is scary and with that information alone keeps one from achieving natural hair goals. -Biolage Scalp Sync Haircare Line -Redken All Soft/All Soft Mega Curls Haircare Line Thank you @mz.lene12 for the post inspiration ❤️

topic: why do you think most brides opt out to wear their natural curls for their weddings? This is a curly client of mine. She normally books me for Curly Haircuts but contacted me to do a Curly Updo on her for a friend’s wedding. She decided to wear her natural curls because she knew it would sustain the moisture and humidity in the air from the rain over the weekend. Her friend had an outdoor wedding so this was the better solution for her. Curly updos are my FAVORITE to style and it requires less stress for preparing for the wedding day unlike most updos, specifically Sew Ins 🙄 Ohmygosh, I will be creating an additional post explaining why that can be an absolute headache & hemorrhoid for the bridal trial and wedding day when it comes to prepping. topic: are weaves really protecting our hair? When we receive these hairstyles, it gives the illusion that it grows your hair just because you see a tremendous amount of growth obviously when you remove them from your hair. The braids underneath the sew-in are about 1-2 inches away from your scalp further pushing this illusion it’s protecting or growing your hair. But what we all need to know and understand is our hair is going to grow regardless underneath an installation or in general unless we have a medical concern due to anatomy and physiology being responsible for that. Our main issue as Black Women is maintaining length once it grows out of our scalp, not growing hair. Those are two different things. Even I was convinced these were protecting our hair at some point and called them such. But I learned it’s not necessarily true. Let’s continue discussing in the comments. What are your thoughts? #austinhairstylist #austinhairsalon #austinhair #austinhairextensions #austinhairsalon

topic: black women & confidence embracing natural curls My client is transitioning from wearing her natural hair straight to curly. The integrity of her perimeter is severely damaged (2-3 inches high) due to not securing her hair at night with a bonnet or silk scarf and also not shampooing & conditioning the amount of times needed for proper hydration and moisturizing in between. Her hair overtime became dehydrated and brittle and started to break off. Due to the inconsistency in texture because of thermal styling and the amount of breakage around her perimeter, I recommend a Twist Out instead of defining her natural curls until we restore the integrity around her perimeter since breakage has zero definition and it would be nothing to define. We can push products to help with restoration, but the main key ingredients are PATIENCE & CONSISTENCY especially if you are not ready to big chop. The products recommended to restore the integrity for her hair in between appointments are by Amika: The Kure, listed below: -Bond Repair Shampoo & Conditioner -Intense Bond Repair Mask -The Wizard Silicone Free Detangling Primer Were you afraid to embrace your natural curls when you first transitioned? I wasn’t afraid but I wasn’t 100% comfortable due to not having the “ideal” length (go figure lol).

topic: “black women & the fear of losing length” My client came in wanting a layered cut, yet she was struggling with fear. Being a Black woman from Louisiana, I’ve always thought the hesitation around haircuts was a Southern thing. But lately, I’m learning it’s a shared experience across the nation amongst black women period. What is this fear of losing length when it comes to our hair? Why do many of us choose to hold onto ‘unhealthy ends’ just for the illusion of length, rather than prioritizing the integrity and health of our hair? Or, when wanting a new style to jazz our look up a tānch, we still are overwhelmed with so much anxiety? Do you experience some level of anxiety before receiving a haircut?
