After my dad suffered a massive stroke in 2016, he was left with vascular dementia and short term memory loss. Over the years, we have watched him slowly decline, but are so thankful he is here with us and remembers our faces (though sometimes not our names 😂).
Out of response to the trauma of a major, literal overnight change, I didn’t know how else to process but to write. And eventually my writing turned to songs. This song is coming from my perspective as well as my dad’s, as I’d imagine maybe he would feel, but wouldn’t know how to articulate in the state he’s in. It’s called “Remember Me”. Not sure if any of you out here will relate to this song, but my hope is that if you do, it will bring some kind of comfort in knowing others who understand.

Here’s a throwback to @theohhellos 2011 EP song “Cold Is The Night”. I was listening to it the other day and the lyrics hit a little different now that I’ve lived some life and have experienced deep grief. Music can be so healing if you pay attention to it ♥️
June 2024 - we played hard, spent lots of time with friends, watered plants and kept them alive 👏🏻 and stayed busy! Entering into July with the intent to spend time with my family and make room for rest and enjoying the simple things ♥️
Same kid, 9 years difference. Still has the same sense of wonder and excitement. He was running through the yard as it poured down rain for the first time in like 3 weeks!

Happy Father’s Day! I’m grateful for the man who raised me, and for @jonathanmpeyton for being an invested, caring, and loving father to our kids. Today is both difficult and sweet, the first without my father in this world, but I get to celebrate Jonathan, who is such a gift to our family because of who he is and how he is shaping our children every single day.
