Happy Juneteenth friends. To celebrate, I have freed myself of the oppressive Central Valley heat. We are driving up the coast to Vancouver (well, Victoria now) just for justs.

If you’re ever wondering why Julian appears so scarcely on my feed, just know it’s because he survived the heyday of my journey into photography. He’s had enough. Also, he’s going to be thirteen this year, he’s just not all that interested in having his photo taken. And I’m not interested in making him do it. But I think he was kinda feelin’ himself at this end of 6th grade year art show. 😂 And even though he’s already at middle school, next year is 7th grade, which will make it OFFICIAL official.
Second to last week of school shenanigans (last week) at Zoo School with our Mini Zoologist. This year Mateo learned about working to bring back the bee population, helped create a butterfly waystation at @fresnochaffeezoo with his Kindergarten class, and advocated for the protection of Orangutans habitat. Next stop, first grade. 🥲
@jtrecool and I went to the last day of River School with Teo’s K class. Got ate up by mosquitoes but it was worth watching all these kids, who were so excited to go wading in the river, screaming at the top of their lungs when they realized how cold the water was. 😂😂😂 They didn’t know what they wanted and ran their frozen little legs back and forth from land to sea, pointing out snakes that were actually sticks and making deliciously inedible mud pies.
Julio is now called Mr. Mateo.
**CALLING ALL MEMBERS OF THE AUNTIE/TIA BRIGADE**
Some “child” at Teo’s school “accidentally” “kicked” his hand yesterday, so we’ve spent half the day at the pediatricians office for examinations and Valley Children’s getting x-rays, never mind the night-before homemade splint that @jtrecool made out of BandAid & thick toothpicks 😂. Won’t know results until Monday if it’s fractured or not but we’ve got it swaddled like a chunky baby in a dinosaur Snuggie. And if you’re wondering if it’s slowed Teo down at all, the answer is… of course not.
Full Disclosure. This is all in jest. He said the other child apologized. Although, I did expect a lot more from his school than … absolutely nothing? Hopefully it’s just a sprain and he’ll be back to drawing in record time.

Just picked this guy up from the 6th grade camp-capades. They went to Wonder Valley for three days - which is, I think, more manageable than the week they used to send us away for. I’d tell you more but I currently have COVID 😩😩😩 and there is no one in this world more covid aware and avoidant than this guy right here, who has never stopped wearing a mask to school, even as the mandates fizzled away. And yes, I did wear a mask to pick him up and then promptly retreated into my gollum quarters in the upper level of our chateau. But I do miss hugging my goofy kids. 🥲
