It was really special to have some of my lifelong friends in these visuals (20+ yrsss!!) thank you for being there. These amazing women are mothers, authors, entrepreneurs, wives, artists, business women… and they still gave the time to do this. we will always just be girls who love each other, going through the same things in different ways. Life comes fast, years go by and distances stretch but the love and support is always there. ❤️ keep streamminnnngg Colonize!!
‘Colonize’ File 11 from The Reifer Files - This song speaks to my desire to be held in mutual love and respect in relationships. It’s about coming together without trying to possess or force the other to be something we want them to be instead of appreciating all that they are, in life and relationships. Let’s enjoy and see each other for who we are and embrace it. No one should be under the restrictions of someone else’s view of who they should be.
We filmed these short visual files at one of the first plantation houses in Barbados, it’s over 300yrs old and now owned by a black woman, my Aunt. The significance of that does not evade me. I wanted these visual files to show my friends and family, diverse West Indian women who are descendants of the enslaved people of these former plantations, now standing on the land in positions of ownership, success, independence and personal power. Free of colonization and in command of our own destiny. 🤎🌀
