The label for the 49th Anchor Christmas Ale features the Subalpine fir (Abies lasiocarpa). An Anchor Brewing historian chose this tree to symbolize resilience, because it only grows in the highest altitudes of Northern California, and because Fritz Maytag liked to alternate between a skinny tree and a wide tree. We took a pretty swift kick in the pants this year, but since our founding in 1896, we've been through surprisingly worse!
For well over a century, Anchor and San Francisco have been inextricably intertwined, and WE will be back.
