OFFICIAL VIDEO "Castle on Irish Bayou" OUT TODAY! Videography & Editting by: @camerongott
Additional videography by: @mylesweeks
Leading role played by: Mardi This one's a light hearted tune about a pretty unique dwelling on the Irish Bayou between New Orleans and Slidell, a two-turret castle among the fishing camps on stilts and hurricane beached old boats. Whoever built it obviously had an imagination or a sense of humor or both. As I’m getting old enough to consider graduating from living under a landlord, the real estate prices just about everywhere in town scare me to the outskirts, and get me thinking about what’d be like to be ‘king of the Irish Bayou.' It's for sale right now, in fact, but I’m not seriously interested. This one’s more clever than true, the tongue in cheek relief on the record.

"Cajun Navy"! I wrote this one for Louisiana, and for all the good people helping each other to heal from this hurricane. If you feel inclined to donate to help that healing effort, below are a couple great places to do so:

One of these days we're gonna step outside the hard times
One of these days we're gonna step outside of the hard times
Its been too long since I've seen your face
Its been way too long since I've felt your mother's embrace
How's your momma doing these days?
One of these days we're gonna step outside the hard times
One of these days we're gonna step outside
Its gonna be alright
We're gonna step outside of the hard times
This too shall pass. Take heart
Ain't nothing love can't out last
When we all play our part. Play your part
One of these days we're gonna step outside the hard times
One of these days we're gonna step outside
Its gonna be alright
We're gonna step outside of the hard times
I'll count myself lucky if all I've lost is my precious time
Waiting for that one day when you can all come over to mine
Come on over to mine

After switching to recording/studio mode, I’m now back at these “Quarantine Songs”. This song was conjured by those most recent mob upheaval events as well as my own religious upbringing experience.
I noticed from photographs of the gathering that lumber was used to construct a cross as well as gallows complete with functioning noose. Not so incongruous as they are both instruments of execution, but of course one was meant to represent REsurrection while the other was for INsurrection (see what I did there?). More glaring and recognizable to my experience is the use of that cross as a ‘Trojan Horse’ to infiltrate the conscience of otherwise reasonable people.
Not that I was building gallows in my Catholic youth, but I certainly was acutely self righteous. Of course I was. I was on ‘the righteous path’ and those who weren’t were ‘lost’. Thank the ‘better angels’ for college! Books and academic discussion led me out of the tunnel of that vision. I revere tradition, community, ritual as some of the most unifying pieces of my human experience, and all religions seem to foster those things, but those things are not contingent on religion whatsoever, and it is far too easy, time and time again, for tyrants to conscript the ‘faithful’ into an ‘army for god’ for their own ends. It is truly discouraging to think that in all of the lessons history has passed down, we continue to convince our ‘brethren’ to do harm to ‘the other’ because ‘god is on our side’.
Much love to you, Patrons! Better days ahead!
Shotgun Religion
Shotgun Wedding made momma proud
Carried cross the threshold of a shotgun house
Questions bout it they would never ask out loud
Its just it was and how we do it now
Who are they to question ancient tradition
Shotgun Religion Shotgun Religion
Bottle target practice in the yard out back
Presidential pennies on the railroad track
Pride is the scar all the young boys have
And they’re leaving the safety of the Cul de Sac
With an itchy finger and a split second decision
Shotgun religion shotgun religion
They were all good kids raised on blood wine
Now they’re all grown up and they’re thirsty for the stuff
And we

Here’s a song about inward deep sea exploration. Don’t forget to log off the petroleum sheen of online discourse from time to time. Call up your submersible buddy and get down there! Love -Andrew
Creatures of the Deep
I know that we like to shoot the breeze
I just need some more turbulent seas
Than I’ve been able to find
Walking the shoreline
Unpleasant beasts
Washing up along the beach
Undiscovered till now
That I think we need to talk about
When we look out on the water
The surface is all we see
But we let our minds go farther
Don’t we
We are creatures of the deep
Creatures of the deep
We are creatures of the deep
A thousand fathoms down
Can we fathom how
We might shed a light
inside the darkness
Way deep down
I was waking up to changing tides
But history just wants to rhyme
Ain’t we learned nothing
I just wanna grow something
I can feel this land subsiding
I’ve been doing more reading than writing
I do need someone I can confide in
When we look out on the water
The surface is all we see
But we let our minds go farther
Don’t we
We are creatures of the deep
Creatures of the deep
We are creatures of the deep
A thousand fathoms down
Can we fathom how
We might shed a light
inside the darkness
Way deep down

“Everybody Colored their own Jesus”
I remember the first day of first grade
A brand new 24 pack
Red and white and blue and brown and black
I counted the hours till arts and crafts
When the coloring sheets get passed
It was a picture of the Christ Child
And we let our colors run wild
Everybody colored their own Jesus
Everybody colored their own Jesus
Noone foolish enough
To say who can and can’t be loved
Everybody colored their own Jesus
It was a simple illustration
Wide open to interpretation
A rose by any other name
But the thorns are deep down in our veins
Everybody colors their own Jesus
Everybody colors their own Jesus
There was never any crime in going way outside the lines
Everybody colored their own Jesus
Maybe its true that he made you in his image and likeness
But who made you so goddamn self righteous

I wrote this some years ago. I was nearing the end of a romance, and we both knew it, but despite the imminent demise, it was necessary for both of us, that we 'see it through'. Its 'closure' in most romantic dead ends, but in this circumstance, I think we both saw it coming from the start, so I don't think either of us needed closure per se. It was more like the last drag of something we knew wasn't good for us.
In looking back on my boyish hopes for what 'sewing my wild seeds' and casual love could be, it was naive to hope that love that didn't cost me anything would do me any good. Hoping to find some warmth in a fire that was always just going out.
We're Going Out
We're going out
Go get ready
We're going out
Like a dying cigarette
We're going out
Winter chill coming on
We're going out
Dimmer still, come along
You never call my name
Guess it's just the same
Neither of us even have it that bad
We just like to have and be had
Burning like a flame
that cannot sustain
Through the night
But its alright
We both knew there'd come a time
For going out
Go get read
We're going out
Like a flicker in the distance
You know what we're doing here
So don't quit on me now
This is a fire we set
And we've got to burn it down
We can't just leave it here
Smoldering by itself
Someone could find you here alone
And they could hurt themselves
CH
So let me twirl you 'round
One more time
Let me take you downtown
One more time
We're going out
Take it easy
We're going out
Completely

FLOWERS FROM ME
Clementine Seeds
by your kitchen window
Come the morning I will plant them in the ground
I still want to believe
That we reap what we sow
I know we thought that we’d be further ‘long by now
Come a spring rain that bring the spring clover
And brought the lavender inside your dresser drawer
When I was a pretty boy, I’d have bought you roses
On my way ty our front door
When you get flowers from me
You will know that I planted the seeds
I believe this love is gonna grow easy
Flowers from me, You will know that I planted the seeds
I believe with love its gonna grow easy
Come a spring rains that bring the spring clovers
I will clear them from this plot I’m tending to
And if there comes a freeze Frost will cover over
You know, I say it like I mean it ‘cause I do
Chorus
Fruit of the vine that stood the test of time
And the changing of the seasons
Chorus
