The Atlas Orion Silver Edition (SE) is a limited edition of the popular Orion anamorphic series by the Atlas Lens Company.
With a different lens coating and tiny tweaks to the mechanical structure, the Silver Editions have a unique look and focus fall-off features. They have classical vintage anamorphic characteristics, strong flaring and medium focus breathing.
A new coating gives the Orion Silver Edition very distinctive neutral flares. They produce a flare with the colour of your direct light source instead of the “anamorphic blue” flares the Standard Orion line produce. Silver Edition Orions flare heavily when shooting at direct light sources. Check out the video from bio to see it in full action.
By fine-tuning the airspaces between the elements, the Silver Edition lenses have their through-focus optimized 25% fore and 75% after the target focus for a smoother fall-off, where as the Standard line produces a focus that is closer to is traditional 50% fore/50% after.
Like the original Orion Series, the Silver Editions have a T2 aperture and a modern, reliable mechanical design. Optical performance is optimal when stopped down town to T2.8 or tighter, where the lenses offer a sharp flat-field performance.
The 6-lens set is available for rent at Angel Films (32mm, 40mm, 50mm, 65mm, 80mm and 100mm). The lenses are made for Super35, but can be converted to cover larger formats with an LF extender.
