If you can, please take a minute to watch this video, shared with me by @unicef , of a Ukrainian mother Maryna struggling to keep her children safe, amid fear of shelling and attack.    This is the reality of life for civilians trapped and displaced by conflict - including an estimated 7.5 million Ukrainian children, their parents and families, and refugees from countries such as Afghanistan, Yemen and Syria who’d fled to Ukraine and now face being uprooted again, as well as students from India and African nations.    Ensuring that aid and supplies can reach trapped civilians is urgent for all people in Ukraine. UNICEF and UNHCR @refugees and partners including brave local organizations, are working hard to reach those in need and deliver aid relief wherever possible.    #ukraine

More than 50,000 people have fled Ukraine in less than 48 hours. My UNHCR colleagues sent this video from Moldova, at the border with Ukraine. @refugees #ukraine #refugees #displacement

Every year there is a worldwide @amnesty campaign to support people who have been persecuted or imprisoned for exposing injustice or corruption or demanding change in their societies. Writing a letter, or signing a petition, is one way of showing them they are not forgotten and of putting pressure on their governments to respect their rights. Anyone can take part, and I hope many of you will. This year’s #Write4Rights campaign is even more urgent because the pandemic has taken the focus away from people fighting for basic rights and freedoms globally. #W4R21 Link in bio

“One of the worst places on earth to be a child.” Yemen is facing one of the largest humanitarian crises in the world. At least 10,000 children have been killed or maimed since the conflict began in 2015, and millions more are at risk of starvation. What started off as a civil war has become a proxy battle for global powers, and it’s Yemenis who are caught up in the crosshairs, including more than 11 million children in desperate need of humanitarian assistance. In this video I co-produced with @bbcworldservice and @bbcnews , directed by Robert Timothy, @yaldahakim looks at the ongoing crisis and its effect on millions of children. It’s part of an ongoing series about young people caught up in global conflict. We hope by sharing their stories, we will help them not be forgotten. #Yemen #YemenCrisis #BBCNews #BBCWorldService

"We will not go to school till the day our sisters join us." "I will not go to school without my sister. I support my sister. We are equal." This is the message from two brave Afghan boys, whose images have been shared around the world on social media. They have taken a stand as the Taliban have moved to restrict women and girls from attending school, universities and the workplace.   The BBC has blurred the boys' faces to protect them from becoming targets themselves. It is the third video on Afghanistan I co-produced with the BBC's @yaldahakim and directed by Robert Timothy, for @BBCWorldService and @BBCNews , that looks at how young people are standing up to Taliban restrictions. Together, they form the first part of a broader series about young people caught up in global conflict. We hope that by sharing their stories, we will help their voices be heard and connect them to other under-25s around the world. #Afghanistan #BBCNews #BBCWorldService

The future for Afghan women, and their place within society, hang in the balance. Many brave young women are protesting and demanding their rights, despite the extreme danger they face. They are the defiant women of Kabul. The BBC has blurred their faces to protect their identities but their message is loud and clear: “We are the young generation and will bring the bud of freedom.” I co-produced this video with the BBC’s @YaldaHakim for @BBCWorldService and @BBCNews . We hope that by making these videos about young people caught up in global conflict, we will give them a voice and help connect them with other under-25s around the world. Their voices are powerful and they demand our attention. #Afghanistan #BBCNews #BBCWorldService

This is a video I produced with the BBC’s @YaldaHakim for @BBCWorldService and @BBCNews – the first of many, I hope. I’m not a journalist. My passion has always been to shed light on issues relating to young people and to support them. I believe no woman should be forced to hide herself, but for their safety, the BBC has decided to obscure their images to protect their identities. As with all editorial content that appears under its name, the BBC has final editorial approval. We hope that by making these videos about those under 25 who are caught up in global conflicts, we will be connecting young people to each other and to the big stories that affect them. #Afghanistan #BBCNews #BBCWorldService
