Imagine studying for a degree and getting offered your dream job before you’ve even finished? Enter Drama student Leila Khan 🤩 Landing the role of Sahar Zahid in Netflix’s revolutionary LGBTQ+ inclusive show @Heartstopper while still studying, Leila’s been able to follow her dream at the same time as finishing her degree, with a little help from ARU.
Leila said: “It was kind of surreal and even when I was on set doing the work I was like, ‘I can’t believe I’m doing this. This is crazy.’ We all get on really well. It’s kind of like a family unit, or working with your friends really.’’

Last Thursday ARU Cambridge held their School of Life Sciences Postgraduate Research Conference 2024.
Our Postgraduate Researchers (PGRs) showcased their range of excellent research undertaken and how they are contributing to the field of Life Sciences.
We were delighted to host the East of England's Primary Engineers Awards Ceremony earlier this week on our Chelmsford campus.
From imagination to innovation, pupils from across the region showcased their award winning 'If you were an engineer, what would you do?' submissions and collected their awards.
We can't wait to see what these rising stars will do with their futures! ⭐

Our Children's Book Illustration students have swept the top three prizes at the prestigious Macmillan Prize for Illustration! Abi Bi, Claire Lemp, and Antara Raman took the top spots, showcasing their incredible talent.

The original artwork for JK Rowling’s Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone, created by Cambridge School of Art alum Thomas Taylor, has fetched a record-breaking amount at auction of 1.5 million pounds. The dealer said it was “the most valuable Harry Potter item ever sold at auction”. 😱
Thomas Taylor, after being approached to illustrate the character by publisher Barry Cunningham at Bloomsbury, took just two days to complete the artwork. He used concentrated watercolours on cold-pressed paper and outlined with black Karisma pencil. Taylor was one of the first to read the original manuscript.

🌟Another win for Cambridge School of Art! 🌟Recently, Children’s Book Illustration MA grad Heike Sharrer won 1st place in the Illustration category for Print Magazine’s 2024 PRINT Awards for her book Stilts, Bears & Skeletons. Heike highlights the importance of the book’s topic – ‘it depicts 15 different dance forms from around the world including ritualistic and ceremonial dances of diverse rural and urban communities and forgotten indigenous dances that were recently revived to convey political messages.’
Current Children’s Book Illustration MA student Xiaoyun Tian came in 2nd place in the same category for her book Neon’s Light. She shared her inspiration for this work – ‘The inspiration for the project comes from the current reality of workplace pressure in China. However, this deformed working state makes young people more and more stripped of themselves. I hope that through this project, I can reflect on today’s high-pressure working environment.’
It’s amazing to see our school and our hard-working students represented so well in these big competitions – amazing work!
