It was lovely to join the allthingsfungi mini festival which packed out @enter_gallery on Sunday. A tiny winter polypore mushroom made big with #canonr6markii - the sort of thing that appears at home when Max is around, to my delight! He found it at the magical @allthingsfungifestival site. Amanita muscaria (fly agaric) 🍄 so magical to come across such an abundance of these striking mushrooms in the woods over the past few weeks. This one is very fancy, lifting up its frilly white skirt to flash its stipe, and has already attracted a couple of the local creepy-crawlies 🕷️🪰 This skirt (annulus) is formed as the mushroom grows, it is a membrane that protects the gills as they develop, and it hangs down after it breaks free from the cap edge whilst remaining attached at the stipe. Back in May I was learning how to focus stack my macro photos to increase depth of field. Initially I was using too high apertures so the specimens were looking really flat and a bit strange and hyperreal. I kinda like this effect though on this quartz crystal. Disk florets of my sunflower under 365nm ultraviolet light >> swipe for natural light comparison. The pollen fluoresces really well under UV causing this powerful lime green neon glow! And the anthers turn blue!
