Get your tissues at the ready... In this moving conversation between our wonderful patron, Olivia Colman and mum of two, Holly Cross, we hear the story of a family whose life was turned upside down when Holly's son, Rupert, was diagnosed with a rare and acute blood disorder. This film marks the closing of our celebrations of what would have been the 50th birthday of Anthony Nolan, the little boy our charity was named after. Unlike Holly’s son, Rupert, Anthony never found the matching donor he needed, and he died when he was just seven years old. His mother, Shirley Nolan, pioneered and launched the world’s first stem cell register in 1974. Since then, Anthony’s story has given the hope of a lifesaving transplant to millions of people with blood cancer or a blood disorder across the world. Thank you for watching. 💚 #OliviaColman #AnthonyNolan #ShirleyNolan #StemCellTransplant #TheCrown #PeepShow #Landscapers #Broadchurch #TheLostDaughter #TheFather

In case you missed it (where have you been?!), the wonderful people at @liverpoolfc and @niveamenuk recently made something incredible happen... Ethan Beckley – a HUGE Liverpool fan – finally met the person whose life he saved. When she was just 13, Libbie was diagnosed with leukaemia, and following two years of gruelling chemotherapy, she relapsed and was given the news that her only chance of her survival was going to be a stem cell transplant. And that’s where Ethan came in. Through selflessly donating his stem cells, Libbie survived, and is working towards her dream of becoming a nurse. This story is a true reflection of the incredible work we’re able to do thanks to the amazing people who sign up to the stem cell register, and to everyone who donates money or takes on a fundraising challenge for us. Find out how you can help save a life with Anthony Nolan via the link in our bio. 💚 #AnthonyNolan #Liverpool #LFC #Nivea #NiveaMenUK #StemCellTransplant #LeukaemiaAwareness #LifesaverReady

‘Everyone in the partnership, and all the volunteers, are an unstoppable force for good.’ . A huge thank you to the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service! . The time, passion and commitment @fire_scot and their volunteers have so generously given us over the past 12 years has been truly remarkable. . We’re so proud of our award-winning, transformational partnership - a partnership that has achieved so much, including the recruitment of over 18,500 potential lifesavers to the stem cell register! 💚 . #SFRS #AnthonyNolan #AnthonyNolanCharity

It’s #VolunteersWeek all this week, and we’re celebrating! 🎉🥳 Despite the many challenges brought on by the pandemic and over a year spent in lockdown, many of our volunteers have continued to play an incredibly important role in our lifesaving work, and we can’t thank them enough for their support, commitment and passion. And to those volunteers who are patiently waiting in the wings until we can work together again - we can't WAIT to see you (hopefully soon!), and we are so grateful for everything you do for us. Join us in saying THANK YOU to them all! 💚

This week we say a sad goodbye and send our best wishes to Hayley, our incredible Lead Nurse. . After working as a transplant coordinator for 10 years, Hayley became Anthony Nolan’s first Clinical Nurse Specialist (CNS) in 2014, supporting patients after transplant at the Royal Marsden hospital. . Hayley went on to lead our CNS team across the UK as our first Lead Nurse, developing and growing the support offered to patients, families and healthcare professionals. . In our latest vlog, Hayley reflects on progress made in patient care during her time at Anthony Nolan, with Clare our Patient & Family Engagement Manager. She also talks about her hopes for the future and has advice for anyone currently going through a transplant. . You can watch Hayley’s full vlog via the link in our bio. . Thank you for everything you’ve done for patients, families and nurses, Hayley - we’ll all miss you so much. Best of luck in your new role as Oncology Matron at Mount Vernon Cancer Centre – we know you’ll be absolutely brilliant. . If you'd like to leave a farewell message for Hayley, please comment below and we'll make sure she sees it! Thank you ❤️ . #AnthonyNolan #AnthonyNolanCharity #LeadNurse #StemCell #StemCellTransplant #Nurse

‘I needed the bone marrow transplant. With sickle cell you don’t really have cures…this was the closest thing that came to a cure.’ ‘Sickle cell is a genetic disease, I’ve had it all my life. It wasn’t until I was about 18 that I really started having problems…I completely lost my quality of life.’   In the latest instalment of our Share & Support video series, Iggie (@iggiee_ ) shares with us what it was like to have a stem cell transplant for sickle cell. To raise awareness and share knowledge of sickle cell, Iggie has set up her own organisation where you can follow her journey at @ehimefoundation . For more information on sickle cell, head to our website. And you can keep up to date with the latest vlogs in our Share & Support series over on Facebook at the Anthony Nolan Patients and Families page. #SickleCell #BoneMarrowTransplant #StemCellTransplant #EhimeFoundation #TheEhimeAikhomuFoundation

Every year, approximately 2,000 blood cancer patients need a stem cell transplant, but too often a donor isn’t available, and they pass away waiting for a match. . . Today is our Communities vs Blood Cancer day of action, aiming to raise awareness of the need to recruit more stem cell donors - particularly people from minority ethnic backgrounds, as well as young men aged 16-30 - to give patients living with blood cancer and blood disorders the best chance of survival. . . Here, Scotland’s Cabinet Secretary for Health and Sport, Jeane Freeman, Sonny Malhotra, who donated his lifesaving stem cells back in 2018, and Ally Boyle MBE, a former firefighter who launched an incredible partnership between us and the Scottish Fire & Rescue Service eleven years ago, explain why they’re supporting today’s Communities vs Blood Cancer campaign. . . Inspired? If you’re aged 16-30 and in good health, find out more about joining the stem cell register at the link in our bio 👆 . . #anthonynolan #anthonynolancharity #CvsBC #bloodcancerawarenessmonth #bcam2020
