Tolleson Teen Council Class of 2020!! Over the next couple days, we will be highlighting our graduating seniors!!! Today’s senior is Xochil Gomez. Xochil plans to attend Grand Canyon University and pursue her Bachelor’s in Nursing to achieve her childhood dream of becoming a Labor and Delivery Nurse. Her favorite Teen Council memory would have to be going to California because it opened up a lot of friendships for her and allowed her to finally open up and step out of her comfort zone. Her advice for the next generation of Teen Council is “always have fun, we are here for a good time, not a long time.” If you’re a Tolleson Teen Council senior and would like to be showcased, hit the DM!!

Melissa will be attending USC this fall studying Public Policy! Her favorite memories with Teen Council include the Summer Leadership Conference where she learned the importance of service and how to serve the community and come up with initiatives, while bonding and having fun <3 Her advice for the next generation of Teen Council is “to utilize all the resources Tolleson has to offer and always remember to serve the community that has served you.” If you’re a Tolleson Teen Council senior and would like to be showcased, hit the DM!!

The DORR breakfast hosted @atovar_az @sheastanfieldaz and Bill Mundell, three #Democratic candidates running for the AZ Corporate Commission, which oversees APS; In addition to all the strong candidates for the AZ state legislature and Congress, these three who would fight utility company corruption and provide AZ ratepayers relief—together we can make government more accountable to voters, not special interests #electionsmatter #arizona #sedona #frenchforaz

What a fantastic turnout for the first meeting of 2020! #LD19 and #LD29 held a joint meeting and welcomed Ken Kenegos, candidate for CD7 DNC delegate and Tolleson Mayor Anna Tovar, candidate for AZ Corporation Commission. Supervisor Steve Gallardo introduced Scott Jarrett, Director of Election Day and Emergency Voting, and they explained the new voting procedure for the #PPE . As always our amazing legislators gave an update and spoke about the bills they're working on and what to expect in 2020. Special thanks to Judge Anna Huberman and @asba_equity Pres Steven Chapman for giving an update as well. Meetings like these show why we are #strongertogether @mcdpld19 @monigpi

This past weekend Sierra Linda JAG members, Luis Ruiz and Shayla Zamudio, attended the Tolleson Paseo de Luces Light Parade and accepted our first place prize in the Tolleson District’s video competition for the 2020 U.S. Census! Our program won first place school-wide and first place district-wide; our members had an amazing time celebrating with @sierra4az @atovar_az @repdiegoespinoza and Senator Lupe Contreras! #count2020 #slhsbulldogs

"As Mayors representing millions of constituents for Arizona’s three major cities and suburbs, we implore Congress to take action and put a stop to these attacks on health care. If Congress fails to act, the gag rule will deliver a devastating blow to people’s access to much needed health care." - Mayor Kate Gallego of Phoenix @kategallegoaz - Mayor Regina Romero of Tucson @tucsonromero - Mayor Coral Evans of Flagstaff - Mayor Anna Tovar of Tolleson @atovar_az Read the #ProtectX letter to Congress from these mayors who advocate for your right to health care here: bit.ly/protectxazmayorsletter

Tonight, I had the privilege of receiving the Jobs for America’s Graduates, National Above and Beyond Award from my long time friend, Tolleson Mayor, Anna Tovar. Eleven years ago, our school district suffered budget reductions and the JAG program was cut - this was the very first time I requested to speak at a governing board meeting asking the district not to cut the program. Fast forward to 2019 and what an honor to be a part of a district and governing board that wants to provide every opportunity for our students. I am proud to say we have reinstated the JAG program at each one of our high schools. As a proud momma of two JAG students, I am beyond grateful to Graciela Garcia Candia and Jag Arizona for engaging students and ensuring they graduate while simultaneously teaching them skills to succeed beyond high school. Thank you Jobs for America’s Graduates for this recognition and for 40 years of advocating for students throughout the United States! ♥️
