We had the distinct privilege to make a donation to Hospice Maui this last Friday. After raising $8000 dollars at our annual Liliko’i Lounge, 2 year anniversary party… we raised a ton of money in Tiki Rob’s name. Thanks to all who supported this effort and thank you, Melanie, CEO of Maui Hospice for giving us a facility tour and to Kristy Hawes for suggesting this awesome organization as this year’s “good mana” recipient!

…when you wake up and realize that Eric Gilliom and his sister Amy Hanaiali’i really did perform in your back yard and it wasn’t just a dream! It was the 2nd Year Anniversary of The Liliko’i Lounge and it turned out to be so much more than we’d imagined! Along with the Anniversary celebration, we chose to honor our friend Tiki Rob Hawes with a special video created as a tribute to him and his wonderful work. We also took the opportunity to raise money for Hospice Maui who was there for Rob and his family and make a donation in Rob’s name. Hospice care is near and dear to mine and Joel’s heart as Hospice was there for our Father when he passed.
We also asked the incredible Eric Gilliom and Vince Esquire to play and much to our complete surprise, Eric’s Sister, the legendary Hawaiian Music Artist, Amy Hanaiali’i came to perform with her Brother. They were absolutely DAZZLING!!!
With their help and the help of our Ohana, Sylvia, Barbara Ann, Dan, Eric and Dani Bulmer and Ron and Sandy Panzo who provided Nalu’s Gift Certificates, we raised almost $7,000.00 for Hospice Maui. And, with the magnificent Bunny Pistol as the Emcee for the raffle with Eric Gilliom providing her with musical accompaniment, it is no wonder we raised as much as we did!
Major thanks to the brilliant Mixologist, Shaun Eroh for not only manning the bar but for also creating a delicious cocktail for the event named, Craftsman’s Cup in honor of Tiki Rob. Thanks also to Robin of Saltwater Deli for catering the incredible food! Everyone raved about it!
It all seems like a wonderful dream! Thanks to everyone who came to help us remember and celebrate and thanks to everyone who donated!

I built The Manini Bar on my lanai to mainly clear up the cupboard space in the kitchen from all the bottles of RuM.. That was back in 2013 and it became so much than just a stash spot.. so many great memories, so many great stories, so many bottles of RUM!!😂 Wish I had more pictures of everyone that visited it and had a cocktail over the last decade.. Today I had to tear it all down.. New chapter begins soon here on Maui, maybe even a new Manini Bar??!! Cheers🍹🤙🏼

A terrible hole was made in all our hearts and lives yesterday.
It was always such a great joy when Tiki Rob came to visit The Liliko’i Lounge and we always made sure he had a seat at the bar. It is just what you do for Royalty and Rob was absolutely Royalty. The path he forged for, not only “Tiki Artists” around the world but for any Artist, was a true blueprint for excellence. His work is unparalleled and his life history reads like a dream come true for anyone who pursues their passions. To know him was a great privilege and we were honored when he told us that The Liliko’i Lounge was his “favorite Tiki Bar.” I will never forget the way he simply smiled when I told him, “You know, it doesn’t escape us that we are extremely fortunate to have you so close by. Just to be able to hear your stories and learn the occasional insights into your work.” What a “treasure” you are Rob! Thank you for your kindness, your generosity and most of all your friendship. I wish we’d had more time with him but, I’m so grateful for the time we had.
Rob lives on through his legacy of work and through his family and friends and, I am so grateful we have Kristy and Scott who share so many stories with Rob.
Rest well my friend. Thanks for all the wonderful friends you’ve brought with you to The Liliko’i Lounge. Some of which have become good friends to us as well. We are going to miss you so very much but, we know that we will see you again someday in that beautiful Tiki Lounge in the Ultimate Paradise.
