PRIMARY VS. SECONDARY MOVEMENTS • Although today was a chest-focused session, I finished off with these Vulken grip tricep extensions. I’ve been devoting more attention to training my triceps- as the stronger this muscle group gets, it’ll also bolster my chest pressing movements, which I consider to be primary compound exercises. SEATED CABLE Y-RAISE As I embark deeper into my bodybuilding journey, I’ve come to realize that lifting “heavy” weights all the time does not always translate to muscle growth. I’ve really started to prioritize the idea of controlling the weight, and maintaining constant tension during every set I perform. The goal I’ve set out for myself this year is to make the last repetition of every set look like the first repetition. ⬇️Just trying to be more complete.⬇️ I’ve always been more quad dominant. I’ve somewhat neglected my posterior chain over the years, simply because I didn’t enjoy training it and I had trouble connecting to those muscles. Recently, I’ve started prioritizing hinging movements more- and they’ve now become a staple in my own training. Few cues I like to remind myself of, while performing this stiff leg dead lift are: 1)Pushing the knees as far back as possible, and keeping the legs as straight as you can on the descent. A little bend in the knees is okay, as you do want to avoid any potential injury to the joint. 2)Keeping your core engaged the entire time you perform the movement, as well as keeping the dumbbells as close to your body as possible. 3)Keeping your chest up, as this will protect your lower back and prevent any rounding.
