Polybutylene pipes, common before the year 2000, become brittle and crack over time. The diagram (thank you @angi ) in picture 1 shows how and why these pipes fail as they age. Picture 2 was taken by one of our techs, Ken. Kent visited a customer to fix a leak. As highlighted in the picture, you can see the leak in the polybutylene pipe. Picture 3 shows the spot repair that we implemented. Generally speaking, when dealing with poly pipes, it’s generally recommended to do a full repipe.
