I wanted to make this post to share my appreciation for the xo kiss and share why I think the song was so perfect for that moment.
The song is about the importance of cherishing the present moment, and loving someone in the present moment, because life can be taken away from us at any moment. Those lyrics show the sense of urgency to love someone right now in the present moment, instead of waiting.
I think this urgency appears in the show, because belly felt a need to rush to tell Jeremiah how she felt because he was pulling away from her. When belly woke up and didn’t see Jeremiah at the motel, she was very afraid because she felt like she lost her chance to tell him that she chose him. She didn’t want to lose him again. She wanted to hurry up and tell him how she feels so that they can be together. We also see this sense of urgency before Belly and Jeremiah kissed at brown. Jeremiah was again pulling away so she turns his face so that she can tell him that she wants him, because she really wanted to be with him.This song really ties into the theme of season 2, which is moving on from your past and moving into the present, all at the same time. Conrad is belly’s past, while Jeremiah is belly’s present. For example, in the invisible string scene in episode 2, Conrad closes the door and Jeremiah opens it. By the end of season 2, I think belly realizes that the love that she seeks is in the present moment with Jeremiah, and not in the past. She is really happy after she kisses Jeremiah both times because she knows that she didn’t lose the chance to tell him how she feels about him.
