SHOWS ARE STILL ON - but… Boohoo - I have a fever! It might just be a reaction to the shot, but i’m not gonna get on stage with a runny nose, sore throat, and 101.1° fever. I’d have to be some kind of special jerk to endanger people and freak ‘em out all at the same time. LUCKILY, these shows were co-bill shows with @happiergilmore , and he can more than carry his own weight. He and @tammylynnfinity are on their way to Houston to do the show at @theduckhouston tonight and @oldquarterac tomorrow - and the shows will be awesome, I promise!! Thanks for capturing this, @penguinitx ! This was my umpteenth official sxsw showcase (i’m very lucky…), but my first ever SOLO official sxsw showcase. I felt great about the plan until a few hours before, when I started worrying I’d made a terrible mistake, especially when I slammed my left middle finger in a car door. 😂 After a couple songs, that dependable rush of show adrenaline erased the pain in my hand, and my fingers began to cooperate. I gotta say — I REALLY enjoyed playing the solo set. I love playing with a band, and it fills my cup to make music with amazing people on stage together — the spontaneous alchemy that comes from listening to one another is addictive, and I wouldn’t ever want to give up performing that way. Collaboration is my drug. But I also wouldn’t ever want to give up performing solo. There is something about standing alone on a stage and saying, this is me, musically naked.
