We want to begin this message by thanking each and every one of you who have supported black and Irish so far. We would not be able to do our work without you. A lot has changed since we began over 3.5 years ago. We need to change with it. Here is an update for you on Black and Irish and how we intend to operate going forward. Our core focus will be advocacy, community and education. We believe in the power of our story and how it can change the narrative. We will recommence sharing experiences from the B&I community soon. Advocacy will see us challenge racism and hatred and focus on building engagement in society. Community will see us bring people together, celebrate one another and aid integration. Education will see us work with schools and wider society on how we can create a more equal and inclusive Ireland. We also understand the importance of media, creativity and representation. Those functions that black and Irish housed will now be run by @bni_media_official and @ftceire Please reach out if you have any questions. We are happy to support you in any way we can! #blackandirish #blackirish

No matter the weather, we stand together! 🏳️‍🌈🏳️‍⚧️ Today was beautiful. Despite the weather, thousands of people took to the streets of Dublin for Pride 2024 ❤️ We had the opportunity to speak to members of the black community who are also members of the LGBTQ+ community to ask how we can do better. We believe at black and Irish that we can do better to connect with marginalised and intersectional communities. If you know how or want to help please reach out so we can have a chat! Happy Pride! 🏳️‍🌈🏳️‍⚧️

June marks Pride month 🏳️‍🌈 A time where we celebrate the LGBTQ+ community and reflect on the impact the community has had on the progression of our society. We see the importance in celebrating pride as we know the intersection of race, gender and sexual identity can carry compounded barriers to this day. Pride is protest. We are fighting for those who believe it is better to hide who they are than to show their true selves. We are showing that the stigmas in our community are the only thing that is not welcome. This day next week, we will be marching in the parade again. As we said last year. You are not marching with us. We are marching with you. If you would like a wristband to march with us in the parade please drop us a message so we can organise it. Spaces are limited so please be sure you can come along if you message us! Remember, you are loved, your true self is more than enough and no matter who your are, what you look like, who you love or how you identify, you belong! Happy pride 🏳️‍🌈🖤 #pride #pridedublin

Through our work in Black and Irish we’ve had many opportunities to speak to young people about @rhasidat_adeleke 🏃🏾‍♀️ At every school talk and book talk we give, we show her to the audience and discuss the impact she has had on Ireland 🇮🇪 Rhasidat is not just a talented athlete, she is an inspiration for all young Irish children who aspire to be the best at what they love. We are privileged to hear the whispered “wow’s” and see the looks of complete awe on children’s faces when we talk about her. We get to answer the many questions we are asked about her. This is the impact that Rhasidat has. She is inspiring the next generation. She is making all kids, regardless of gender, colour or anything else feel proud to be Irish 🇮🇪 Rhasidat is at the beginning of a glittering career. She is and will represent Ireland at an incredibly high level and we should all be behind her on this journey! #rhasidatadeleke #ireland #blackandirish

More than 100 candidates from migrant backgrounds ran for council seats on the June 7th election, compared with 56 five years ago. We saw 21 of them elected! Including some black and Irish!! Congratulations to everyone, we look forward to working with you all to better our community! If we’ve missed anyone please let us know! #blackandirish #blackirish

4 years ago today George Floyd was murdered by a police officer. A watershed moment in our modern history where we saw massive movements of both defiance and solidarity. George’s murder was a tragic miscarriage of justice which never should have happened. If the people trying to arrest George were in touch with their humanity, he would still be alive today. However, his murder caused billions of people around the world to get in touch with their own humanity. To recognise injustice. To recognise their own biases. To recognise the inequalities in this World. Today more than ever we need to reconnect with that humanity again. With the various challenges we see around the world we must continue to fight for the liberation of all. We must fight to remove the knees of the oppressors off the necks of the oppressed in all situations of injustice. Today our thoughts are with George’s daughter, family and friends. Our thoughts are also with all those who face injustice, oppression and suffering at the hands of others. We must recognise that there are people who need our support in this world. Whether they have come here or whether they are abroad, we must do all we can to support them. #Justice #justiceforgeorgefloyd #blacklivesmatter #blm #georgefloyd #blackirish #blackandirish
