I wrote this song the very first time I went to Hong Kong in 2018. My late mother, Wei Wun Yu was born there but we never visited this vibrant place together. As I wandered through neighbourhoods, her presence was always there, I would see her for a split second before realising it wasn’t her and she’d vanish again. The feeling that we are all connected and we can see ourselves in each other; a state of inter-being was a sad but also comforting thought. Together with director @biekedepoorter I went back to Hong Kong once more. She was very sensitive towards my relationship with this city, how I wanted to connect with people, what this journey meant to me and how this translated into my music. Her visual language is the perfect fit for this song. 100% 50% completely half on my behalf This is the first video and single taken from my full album “Letter To Yu” that I dedicate to my mother. It was written in Hong Kong and came to full fruition in Belgium. Writing new music, going well…

Working on my album Letter To Yu in Hong Kong. Most of the writing happened in between moments, trying to grasp some inspiration from being present. Can’t wait to bring this music to a stage near you 🙌❤️🤞 1: Shuen Wan parc 2019, a song that didn’t make it to the album. 2: Working on Ma Tau Wai Road in my hotel room 3: Searching for chords on Cosmic-Rendez Vous 4: Burning incence for La Yu 5: The one and only doctor from Doctor Says 6: The first day in HK, bumping into the temple around the corner, wrapped in haze (as heard on Ma Tau Wai Road) 7: Programming at night 8: While on Lamma island near a pagoda 9: 🥟 10: View from the appartement where my mother spent her first years, sharing an ice cream with her like we used to do. New song Ma Tau Wai Road out today! I wrote this song in a hotel room just around the corner of my mother’s birthplace on Ma Tau Wai Road in 2019. It’s a song about gratitude and regret, two feelings that go hand in hand when I’m in Hong Kong. Back in Belgium I asked my sister Salah Pupul if she wanted to sing this song. Besides being a great visual artist she is also a very talented singer with whom I’ve made a lot music in the past. 
Prior to the recording session she had never been to Hong Kong, but when we decided to make a video for Ma Tau Wai Road, I wanted to film her being a small part of this giant city. I enjoyed every minute with my sister in Hong Kong, mirroring each other since we were kids. Made with lots of love and compassion dedicated to our beloved mother Yu Wei Wun. I have the habit of photographing my food from time to time, especially when it promises to be really good. I actually never look at them afterwards but now I did.
