A thirty minute video profile piece for @composersnow IMPACT series is up on youtube! It originally aired over the summer. The piece covers some early background - the excerpt above is of the first minute or so - but focuses primarily on performances and projects over the last several years. Spotlights are on the solo project I have called #drumsanddrones , duo projects with @zpribbon , @sikoracat and @man.am.i , ‘rock’ bands @beechcreeps and @yeahyeahyeahs and the label I run, @chaikinrecords . @christianjoycostumes appreciation post (+ it’s her birthday today)! as we all know, Christian’s costumes have been an INTEGRAL part of @yeahyeahyeahs history and @ko ’s onstage style. When KO puts on one of Christian’s outfits it’s the same as when the heroine changes into the superheroine. For the past 20+ years Christian has been making outfits for KO and every time there’s a new one the reaction is the same - WHOA! Backstage in the dressing room when Karen comes out for the first time wearing a new Christian outfit everyone stops what they’re doing and is like, “🤯this is INCREDIBLE!” and it’s been like that for 20+ years. • Of the many qualities I love about Christian’s style is that she hardly ever uses ‘fancy’ materials. For the most part her materials or ordinary and readily accessible - ANYONE can get them. But an aspect that makes Christian so special is that she sees possibility and potential beyond what’s in front of her - she understands the energetic properties of form and color and shape, and can mold anything to be expressive and captivating. Her costumes are dynamic and engaging and often absurd and humorous- these outfits demand attention and can reach to the back of a 60k audience as much as to the front. • Last month Christian was featured in @nytimes . The article speaks to her innovative talent and collaboration with @ko . Christian is a true artist above all else. HAPPY BIRTHDAY NICK!!! 💖💫🎉 Looking for personal pictures of @little_vampire can be a bit tough since I’m not a photographer (and am also often still forgetful that phones doubles as cameras). Looking for pictures of @ko , @imaadwasif or me is no problem since Nick is an AMAZING photographer (and usually has a camera or two on his hip in addition to his phone-camera). When scavenging for pics to use for this post I didn’t find what I was looking for initially but then realized that I not long ago came across an old computer that had tour photos from 2006 when @yeahyeahyeahs were on the road supporting the album Show Your Bones. The photos are by the incredible photographer @davidbelisle who traveled with us that year thanks to our tour manager the magnificent @malomadness . The most immediate way I could get pics from this computer is to take pics of the screen - it has no functional wifi or modern usb drive - but I love the photos so much!!! There is more gold on there but for another time… maybe if David still has the originals :) • Nick is a fastidious archivist and has 20+ years of YYYs photos organized on a library’s amount of hard drives (in addition to his many other brilliant photos re: @nickzinnerphoto ). This meticulous attention to detail finds an analogue in the way he crafts his music - sonically well sculpted and ingenious and spot on. It is evident in both his guitar playing, guitar sound, mixing, producing, sound track work, djing… Nick, how are you so amazing at EVERYTHING?!!! • Today is Nick’s birthday. He is also in the midst of kicking pneumonia so could use an extra round of birthday love - some of the best and most potent medicine. Get well speedily!💖 • LOVE YOU NICK!!! @yeahyeahyeahs are doing this really cool Artist In Residence series on @bbc6music . For the series, we get to program and host an hour-long radio show. Each show airs weekly and there are ten episodes. We’ve been putting them together and it’s been really fun! ✨ Each show explores a different theme and we’ve been doing them as both groups and individuals. Working on this project with @ko and @little_vampire has been amazing as we reminisce and gather the music!💖 So many stories… The second episode aired today and there are eight to follow. Each episode stays up on the BBC 6 Music site for a month (I believe).
