Cinematographer Cao Yu Uses Evoke 2400B Chinese cinematographer Cao Yu, best known for his work on ”City of Life and Death“ and ”Kekexili: Mountain Patrol“ with director Lu Chuan, has shot his most recent project in China using the Evoke 2400B. Born in Beijing, Cao graduated from Beijing Film Academy in 1997 and was assigned to Beijing Film Studio where he honed his craft. It was there he shot his first film, the 1997 comedy ”Run Away“ which garnered him a Youth Film Fund Award at the 54th Cannes Film Festival. His career continued with award-winning films such as ”Chicken Poets“ (awarded the Special Jury Prize at the Locarno Film Festival). His awards are numerous and include Best Cinematography for ”Kekexili: Mountain Patrol“ at the 25th Golden Rooster Awards and the 41st Golden Horse Awards. His second collaboration with Lu Chuan on ”City of Life and Death“ garnered him Best Cinematography at the 57th San Sebastian International Film Festival, Best Cinematography at the 46th Golden Horse Awards, Best Cinematography at the 4th Asian Film Awards, and Best Cinematography at the 3rd Asia Pacific Screen Awards. His third collaboration with Lu Chuan came in 2015, when he shot the 3D adventure action film ”Chronicles of the Ghostly Tribe“.
