The future is female. Not because it’s anti-male, but because for too long women have been under-represented in the workplace, in government, in the media and elsewhere. Female leaders are transforming industries and communities across the world and the new opportunities and economic dynamism are a benefit to all. We’re proud to play a small part in helping to shape tomorrow’s narrative by highlighting an amazing and diverse set of leaders on our site each week. A few are highlighted in the pinned comment below, the full series on our website.

You matter. Your story matters. You don’t have to be a billionaire or pop star for your story to matter. We think it’s important to ask our neighbors and friends and people throughout the community to share their stories because if no one asks, far too many stories would go untold. The coffee shop around the corner and the artist next door have stories we can learn from, grow because of and be inspired by and we are so proud to be able to help make sure these stories are told each week. We launched our content partners program as an extension of our mission to help shift the balance of power between big business and small business and creatives. This summer, we’ve been so fortunate to host photoshoots, happy hours, and so much more to help our members reach their full potential. So much more planned for this summer and into the fall – here’s a quick snapshot of some recent highlights. Image Credits: the super talented @madisonfromdallas

Some art is provocative, some is deep, some art is fun, some is pretty. Some art is all of the above and some is none. In our interviews with artists, one thing we’ve learned is that there is never a single statement or generalization that can be made about “art” or “artists.” We’ve highlighted artwork from some of the artists we’ve had the honor of interviewing – we hope you’ll check out their work, follow the ones you connect with (artists are tagged) and perhaps support them through purchases and spreading the word about their work.

Your story matters. Your viewpoint and insights matter. In our view, there is far too much coverage of the trends that ivory tower professors and billionaire fund managers are seeing. What's the edge in hearing the billionaire consensus view over and over again? The edge comes from hearing new perspectives and new information like from the wedding planner who has worked with hundreds of couples during the pandemic and has noticed that couples are allocating significantly more of their wedding budgets on "small details" like personalized neon signs or the accountant seeing how there's a huge uptick in ecommerce clients generating revenue from in person popups. The small business owners, artists and creatives in our communities are brilliant and deserve more coverage, more platforms and more opportunities to share their stories and insights and we’re excited to play a small role in getting those insights out into the world through our upcoming CanvasRebel features.

Yoga Digest is for the people, by the people. I believe it helps communities in a couple of ways. It’s full of inspiring stories, expert advice, healthy tips for the mind, body and soul. In addition, the contributors who provide content are getting the opportunity to be creative, share their passion, and have purpose by helping others. We have a long time partnership with The One Love Movement, a non-profit that supports orphanages in India and Africa, underserved children, the LGBT community, and Black Lives Matter. We promote healthy products and services, many of which are small start-up businesses that are chemical and cruelty-free and are often connected to philanthropies and giving back. - Jenn Bodnar: Yoga Digest Owner, Wellness Professional, E-RYT 500 @yogadigest Image Credits: John Doty, Inmotion Imagery

My business is K. Blair Hair, where we focus on inspiring the nurturing of natural hair through protective styling, education, and proper maintenance for women in all walks of life. My job is to provide styles that gives women their time back! That hour or 2 that you would have spent doing your hair, now they can use that time for hobbies, family, friends, or just some extra sleep lol. I pride myself on being a full-service stylist. When my clients come to my studio, they are going to get their hair shampooed, conditioned, blowdried, trimmed, and styled. Getting to this point was nothing short of DIFFICULT. There were days, months, years, that I have been BROKE BROKE. When I was first building my clientele, I was doing hair for free and staying up all hours of the night, just to get my name out there! This was before social media time, so i really had to work hard to market myself, especially as a young girl with little to no credibility. That work I was putting in, started to pay off because I started being “booked” in high school. I was getting a lot of business but I still didn’t have professional business practices. I was doing hair in my living room, on the floor, eating, taking breaks, etc. But as time went on, I slowly upgraded throughout the years with little to no financial investment. I got professional tools, accurate scheduling, policies, and now my own studio! My most important lesson learned, was that its okay to start right where you are, and grow! Now, my work has been seen on places like BET, The Today Show, The Shade Room, News Channels, etc. I am humbled and extremely grateful for my growth! That’s what I’m all about. - Kathryn “Kat” Blair Hair Stylist @k.blairhair Image Credits: Darnell Porter

Well for starters, I grew up being obsessed with food. As a child, I had a big appetite. Fast forward 20 years, I’m still a big foodie. I was that person taking pictures of food even when everyone was annoyed with it. The colors, the textures, the sight, everything about food is literally beautiful. I already had an album of food pictures on my phone and I thought why not just create an Instagram with all the pictures that I’ve taken. So that’s basically where it began. Little did I know how big the food scene in Houston was. It was like a whole new world I just discovered, and luckily two of my friends were already a part of it. @Nkmedeats and @Houandmefood helped me out a lot. - Elysia Sangel Food Blogger @TheOkayFoodieTX

The idea behind Sweet & Sudsy Soap came from a need as a parent. My business partner, Debbie, and I collectively have four girls. We shared the same bath time/shower struggles of our girls either not wanting to take a bath or pumping an enormous amount of soap on the shower floor while “flexing” their independence. We were shocked when we could not easily find super cute bars of soaps for kids on the market. We quickly realized this was something we could jump into and enjoy at the same time. During the inception process we discovered the joy of visualizing a design, developing it and ultimately watching it be sold! Our original theory that supports each of our our designs is that if a soap bar looks cute, is easier to hold compared to large bars and smelled amazing then children would be more inclined to use them. Some of our fan favorites are our ice-cream pops, donuts, mermaid tails, footballs, fruit slices and unicorn bars. Beyond our soap designs, we knew the value of helping our community and environment. As a part of our mission, we partnered with a non-prophet organization called The Birthday Party Project, which organizes birthday parties for children living in homeless shelters in the United States. Sweet & Sudsy Soap donates a cupcake soap for every sale over $50. We are also working to help change the way people view bottles of soap products verse bars as a way to dramatically improve the environment. With more than 480 billion plastic bottles being sold world-wide – less than half of those bottles are collected for recycling and around 7% of those collected were turned into new bottles. Instead most plastic bottles produced end up in landfill or in the ocean. With such devastation to our environment, our drive to produce more products with less packaging increased tremendously. All though we have already learned so much over the past year we still consider ourselves to be in the very early stages. We have launched a collection of soap and shampoo designs that help “entice” children into bath time but there are so many new, amazing products in the works that we are eager to launch. We are excited to share clean, fun, love for everyone! - Hillary Cace
